MD-2

At the well-known auction site a MD-2 is offered, with a red Leitz logo. The text says that only 200 MD-2's had such a red logo. I never saw one before and never read about it either. The serial # fits the first batch from 1980-81 with MD-2's, while production of the MD-2 had already started in 1978. My own MD-2 has a serial number allocated for M4-2, which makes sense.

Does anyone know about MD-2 camera's with the red Leitz logo?

The camera you write of is 1.546.468 : wouldn't this number belong to a batch of M4-P ?

Yes Luigi, but I read the number on the poor picture as 1546168, which turns out to be MD-2 from 1980-81. The one at Westlicht that Philippe mentioned seems to belong to a batch of M4-P's. So perhaps the red Leitz logo on MD-2's can be explained by the birth of the M4-P, which had the red logo. Apparently the same shells were used for both camera's, at least in several cases of the MD-2.

I just found this thread and thought you might be interested.

I also own an MD-2, Canada made with a red Leitz labeled logo.

The serial number is 17047xx and makes it one of the last 100 made. Interestingly it has only one flash sync port, which was already a reminessence to the M6. As I read on Steven's cameraquest page the last M4-P were also made with only a single flash port. So my MD-2 seems to be pretty rare.

Interesting for me to find out would be, how many single flash port MD-2 were made.

Anyone having knowledge on that?

Regards, Michael
