On the german forum we discussed M8 skintones today - i am VERY pleased with the M8 in this field. Made this snapshot with an early pre-production model last summer (firmware 0.22), Auto-WB, no extra light-equipment, no Photoshop-postproduction except downsizing for web and some sharpening.

The lens was the summicron 75asph.

Ronald, disregarding the whole M8 frenzy here. That is a very fine portrait. Hardly a snapshot. Maybe a simple approach but an extremely effective one. Personally my absolute favourite reason to own and learn to use gorgeous Leica glass, Delicate colour, sharp, sharp where it counts. Very very good indeed.

Also another thought that those wonderful 75's become even more wonderful 100's on the M8. Still I think the 90's won't be out of place either. Another compelling positive for great glass on a new camera that just happens to not need Astia to produce this fabulous image.

cheers

Ronald, by any chance was a flash used on this shot? I was just wondering where the nice highlights in the eyes came from?

Ronald,

I was wondering why this shot was going unnoticed, or at least not commented on. Good to see it back on the top of the list. Again, wonderful technically and a good model for all of us who strive to express something of the inner person we're shooting.

@ Andy: I think it was the very first Capture One LE they delivered to me (with one of the very first M8 profiles back in August).

@ Scott: NO flash or any other help except daylight from the horizont in my back (on the bottom the dark area is the beach, in the upper half of the iris, you see the sky and a cloud which cuts the sky highlight, the dark "hill" in the middle is my shadow). Somebody in the german asked me the same flash-question and asked for this extreme enlarged crop (maybe 300 or 400% enlarged).

...this is the same lady you shoot for the leica news, isn't she? the skintones and the light is amazing but the cam is not for everything. the photographer knows how to shoot.

i've seen some really good photos done with this cam (prints) but also some great crap.....:)
