M8 and old Rollei Flashes?

You need to be careful about the voltage output of older flash units, if its too high it could damage the electronics of your camera. I think the M8 handbook will give you further details. You can also buy a 'wein safe' I think that's how its spelt - search the forum for more info.

The M8/9 are supposed to be OK up to 240V, may be worth measuring as the flash you mention is not on this list and some of the Rollei's mentioned have a highish voltage. You could also google for a online datasheet/manual I guess.

 

Anyways, the only thing that could happen is that the transistor avalanches, but the current will be limited anyway so that should not be a problem. In that case the flash will not fire but that's all.
