jsrockit Posted January 11, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 11, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Would there be any issue using these old Rollei flashes with an M8? Something like: Rollei 121BC flash unit - eBay (item 330394310640 end time Jan-13-10 19:10:17 PST)

earleygallery Posted January 11, 2010 Share #3 Posted January 11, 2010 You need to be careful about the voltage output of older flash units, if its too high it could damage the electronics of your camera. I think the M8 handbook will give you further details. You can also buy a 'wein safe' I think that's how its spelt - search the forum for more info. jaapv Posted January 11, 2010 Share #4 Posted January 11, 2010 The M8/9 are very safe for high-voltage flashes. But by all means test it out.
SJP Posted January 11, 2010 Share #5 Posted January 11, 2010 The M8/9 are supposed to be OK up to 240V, may be worth measuring as the flash you mention is not on this list and some of the Rollei's mentioned have a highish voltage. You could also google for a online datasheet/manual I guess. Anyways, the only thing that could happen is that the transistor avalanches, but the current will be limited anyway so that should not be a problem. In that case the flash will not fire but that's all.
caparobertsan Posted January 13, 2010 Share #6 Posted January 13, 2010 I would not use any high voltage sync flash. And If I remember correctly this model has about 350V at flash sync contact. I would look for another modern compact flash.

jsrockit Posted January 13, 2010 Author Share #8 Posted January 13, 2010 I would look for another modern compact flash. Like what? I really want it to be very small. Not much out there today.
