wilfredo Posted December 8, 2006 Share #1 Posted December 8, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I read some of the posts rumoring a 30% discount on lenses or an M8, but none of this has been confirmed, and probably will remain in the domain of rumor. I'm wondering however, how many of those who have not bought the M8 because of the elite price tag, would take the punge if a 30% discount were offered? I would probably go to Samys Camera tomorrow Saturday, and place my order, even with the IR filter and coding issues :-) Cheers, Wilfredo
Advertisement Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 Hi wilfredo, Take a look here 30 % Off, Who's Buying??? . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wattsy Posted December 8, 2006 Share #2 Posted December 8, 2006 I read some of the posts rumoring a 30% discount on lenses or an M8 I don't think the rumours have ever suggested a 30% discount off an M8 - only off a lens. It is clearly more than a rumour and has been confirmed to me by my dealer who was reading the stuff sent to them from Leica. I think Mark Norton had it confirmed to him by the MD of Leica UK. Personally, I'd rather Leica offered a voucher/rebate (perhaps for £300 or so) which you could use against any Leica purchase from your dealer. As it stands, the dealer will miss out entirely and Leica get to reduce inventory by selling a bunch of lenses they may not have otherwise sold. earleygallery Posted December 8, 2006 Share #3 Posted December 8, 2006 My understanding is its an offer for 30%/£1000max off a new lens for those customers who have already bought an M8 which has been recalled for repair, as a goodwill gesture. There is no discount for the M8.
johnastovall Posted December 8, 2006 Share #4 Posted December 8, 2006 I think if Leica offered a 1000 dollar rebate now on the M8, I would get one, problems and all. But since they aren't, I'm going to see what they have at Photokina in 2008. I really want one but I don't want it to be a work in progress.
sdai Posted December 8, 2006 Share #5 Posted December 8, 2006 I agree ... they'd better offer a rebate toward the M8 ... I've zero interest in buying another lens.
Eoin Posted December 8, 2006 Share #6 Posted December 8, 2006 Does anyone know if this 30% offer is limited to one per person or one per M8, I'm due to take delivery of a 2nd M8 2nd batch from the factory and I'm curious does the 30% rebate apply to this camera given the fact it won't need to go back for repair. Leica say pay before 31 dec 2006 and register to get free filters, I have a sneaky suspcision that the quiteness on the 30% will only apply to those cameras that have to be returned to the factory. earleygallery Posted December 8, 2006 Share #7 Posted December 8, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I really don't know, but can't imagine why they would make the offer to anyone who has bought a revised model. I'm sure its just for those who have to return their camera from the initial batches.
skimmel Posted December 8, 2006 Share #8 Posted December 8, 2006 Given that my goal would be to get an M8 and new wide angle (28mm) lens but don't want to pay that much right now, I would likely go for this deal.
c6gowin Posted December 8, 2006 Share #9 Posted December 8, 2006 I plan on using the 30% off lens voucher to get a Noctilux or Wide Tri Elmar
hammam Posted December 8, 2006 Share #10 Posted December 8, 2006 Just this morning, I received a mail from someone at Leica, NJ, confirming that, yes, if you have received your M8 or if you have paid for it in full before Dec. 31st, you are eligible to « receive a lens from Leica AG (Germany) at a 30% discount ». I have asked that person if this had been confirmed by Solms, and I'm still awaiting their reply.
marknorton Posted December 8, 2006 Share #11 Posted December 8, 2006 I have just been contacted by my dealer and that is indeed the deal. Pay for your M8 in full before 31 December and you get 30% off a lens. Sounds good to me.
jamriman Posted December 8, 2006 Share #12 Posted December 8, 2006 I have just been contacted by my dealer and that is indeed the deal. Pay for your M8 in full before 31 December and you get 30% off a lens. Sounds good to me. I'd go for the discount and grab a 28 ASPH elmarit. Just have to sell off my 35 asph lux. Not sure if it applies to me since I'm on the list for the second batch.
sagarwal Posted December 8, 2006 Share #13 Posted December 8, 2006 I have just been contacted by my dealer and that is indeed the deal. Are there any details on how to go about taking advantage of this deal? Where would I buy the lens from and what is the price list, etc.? Does anyone know if the letter to the dealer or to the user has these details?
marknorton Posted December 8, 2006 Share #14 Posted December 8, 2006 It's all down to the registration. You have to register your existing camera or your paid-for order on the web-site (my dealer is doing it for me). Obviously, there are safeguards built in to make sure you do actually buy the camera. My dealer is not over-the-moon about the scheme because the users will be dealing with Leica direct. I expect they will issue a price list; questions such as sales tax, import duty, shipping costs and so on have all to be answered.
dlc43 Posted December 8, 2006 Share #15 Posted December 8, 2006 I just spoke with Rob at Leica USA (based on an e-mail instruction from Josh at Popflash to do so if I still had any questions). Rob confirmed that those buying an M8 and paying in full for it by December 31, after registering it (whenever it does arrive), will get a letter back from Leica HQ with the lens discount information. He confirmed that the disount program does exist, but that it is all being handled by Leica in Germany. For now, that's good enough for me
