Images from the 21mm Summilux look fantastic

I've been looking at the 21mm Summilux images on flickr and I am taken aback by their quality on both the M8 and M9. It looks like such a greta lens and I think I'll be making the purchase in a months time or so.

Does anyone in this forum have images and experiences they would like to share about this lens. One thing is that it looks like a perfect '28mm summilux' on the M8 and when/if I get my M9 then it will be a very wide focal length.

I'd love to hear thoughts and feelings about this lens.

I've done search after search and understand the arguments. I've looked at the images posted both here and on flickr and I like what I see. Before I buy the lens I thought I would fish for information from someone who has been using the lens a lot. Do they still enjoy it? Do they regret not getting the 24 Summilux etc etc?

I went with the 24mm Summilux and am very happy. I am currently shooting an M8 and find it a bitt too tight, so for my style the 21mm would have probably suited me better. Being that I will evidentially move up to the M9, I think I made the right choice though.

here are a few shots:

My thought is that while I like both focal length on the M9 (21 and 24) I find the high speed of f1.4 and the effects you can get with f1.4 is more usefull in a 24mm lens than it is in a 21mm lens.(on the M9)

My goal is to combine the effect of shallow DOF with a dynamic wide angle look.

The other thing is that with 24mm the difference between the full viewfinder and the external 24mm viewfinder is not that big. So if you want to be fast or if focusing is critical you can also just use the internal viewfinder here and then (even though I allways have the external one on the camera).

I had a hard time making upmy mind if the 21/24luxes make sense on the M9 and which one to get.

In the end I kept my 21/2,8 and replaced my 24/2.8 with the 24/1.4.

And I now find that I can indeed a totally different look with the Summilux compared to the Elmarit.

Here is an example (M9 and 24lux)

Love the Lux 21 on the M8. But it's a tad too wide for my taste on the M9.

With hindsight, I should have probably bought the Lux 24.

unless you love shooting super wide, the 24 is a logical option on the m9 if you must have a lux. when the 21/24 was first announced, no one had any idea that a full frame m9 would appear just a few months later so when they bought it, they made their choice with the m8's cropped sensor in mind. traditionally the wide-angles are for buildings, interiors, landscapes and portrait groups on full frame. why not try to borrow a 21/24 elmarit in the meantime to get a feel for how wide it really is but if you've never used either of these on ff, be prepared to work at it. when using it on the m9 (i have an m7 and a wate) it's a different beast to master altogether than on the m8 so definitely give it more thought..

Hey thanks for the replies. Bad luck for me was that I broke my ankle. 9 pins and off work for 3 months. I would of replied sooner but I wasn't near a computer. Tom 0511 that is a lovely image - shows how nice the 24mm is. I have an M8.2 and a 50 lux and 24 elmarit so I'll be swapping my elmarit. I think I'll be going for the 21 lux because on my M8 it becomes a 28 lux which is quite unique and I love the images I've seen with this combo. In future when I get an M9 I'll likely keep my M8 and put the 21mm on the M8 and the 50 lux on the M9. Then if I need to go wider then 28mm I'll have the 21mm on the M9. I think on the whole the 21mm lux is perhaps the more unique of the two wide angle luxes. But that's just my view. Either way these two wide-angle lenses seem to be fantastic.
