enboe Posted December 30, 2009 Share #1 Posted December 30, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Forgive my cabin fever, but I am curious if others have been experiencing a similar urge. Now that I have a highly-reliable SD card, I find I really, really enjoy the M9, so much so that I am giving consideration to selling off some of the early M's in my stable. I will still keep a film M around, but I don't know that my M2 or M3 will ever be as much fun as the M9. The revenues from the sales would be reinvested into glass. Anyone else think about, or take action on, selling their previous Ms because of M9 experience? Thanks. Eric
Advertisement Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Hi enboe, Take a look here Has M9 inspired you to sell M1-M8.2?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Roberto Watson Posted December 30, 2009 Share #2 Posted December 30, 2009 ...yes I would sell seven of my eigth M bodies, but would keep a M6 and most of my lenses for new body M9
adan Posted December 30, 2009 Share #3 Posted December 30, 2009 I traded 2 M8(.0)s as part of my M9 purchase. Both went to good homes within a month. Traded my last film M for a lens about 2 years ago.
RobertW Posted December 30, 2009 Share #4 Posted December 30, 2009 Was thinking about it, but personally, I'd like to see better high ISO-low light performance (yes I know its improved) over my M8u. Since the M9 has come out, to go along with my M6, I've picked up a CL with 40 Cron;), and GASP a Bessa R3A:eek:. Best Rob
jaapv Posted December 30, 2009 Share #5 Posted December 30, 2009 Never sell a Leica, you will regret it.. Nevertheless, I am playing with the idea of selling one of my M8s, but then again, maybe not....
Rolo Posted December 30, 2009 Share #6 Posted December 30, 2009 It was a very difficult decision for me to sell my M7 and M8, plus other little used gear to fund the M9, but in the end I had to inject less than £500 cash to buy the M9. Whilst I was sorry to see my mint M7 go, I know I'd have little use for it in the future. The M8, not a second thought, I'm afraid. I've retained an MP and will reconsider it's value to me in the next 6 months. It may remain as a perfect back-up camera, or with a DSLR outfit it may help completely fund a second M9. Time will tell.
cheewai_m6 Posted December 30, 2009 Share #7 Posted December 30, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) i can only speculate what i'd do. i was going to put a deposit down for an m9 but financially, it's not the right time for me. i've got an m6 which i was/am going to keep. i think i'll always have a film m. if i had an m8, or more than 1 m8, i think they'd go in a heart beat. not shooting full frame just blows, i know this from my dslr. plus the ir filters are a bit crap too. pascal_meheut Posted December 30, 2009 Share #8 Posted December 30, 2009 I sold 1 M8 already, I will sell the 2nd, upgrade one soon. And I'll keep the M7 as a complement/backup.
howard_cummer Posted December 30, 2009 Share #9 Posted December 30, 2009 I am going to keep my M8u for infra-red work and as a back up. Won't sell it ever. I will buy the M9 later next year when things have settled down a bit in Hong Kong. Cheers Howard
danyves Posted December 30, 2009 Share #10 Posted December 30, 2009 Never sell a Leica, you will regret it.. Nevertheless, I am playing with the idea of selling one of my M8s, but then again, maybe not.... Same here, long ago I decided to never sell or resell a Leica nor a Leitz or Leica glass. So having to M8(0) I do not know when I could or not afford one or two M9, in any case mostly would be second hand.
michaelc Posted December 30, 2009 Share #11 Posted December 30, 2009 Yes, sold my M7, 0.58 black.
delander † Posted December 30, 2009 Share #12 Posted December 30, 2009 I did not keep my M8s, I traded them both in for M9s. I like to use two cameras with different FL lenses and found it very difficult to use an M8 alongside an M9. I would have liked to have kept my chrome M8 but it would not have found much use. Better for them to have gone to new users. I dont have any film Leicas except for a recently bought 1F/2F, must use it in 2010. Jeff PS Phaseone refused to allow the transfer of the Capture One that came with the M8 to the new owner. So I no longer have the disc and the new owner cant use it. Very stupid policy in my view. ajtapia1 Posted December 30, 2009 Share #13 Posted December 30, 2009 I have been shooting with my M9 for about three weeks. I truly love the camera and am re-discovering the focal lengths I used with film. Primarily the 21mm and the 50mm. I sold my M8 and kept my M4. I will save my money and buy a used M9 when they become available. Al
michali Posted December 30, 2009 Share #14 Posted December 30, 2009 I'm sitting with: Leica Standard 1939: Keeping this. Leica IIIf: Keeping this. M3: Keeping this. M8: Keeping this. So far (touch wood) no hassles at all, love the ability to shoot @ 1/8000s especially in Africa with the Summiluxes attached. I somehow prefer it to my M8.2 can't say why, but I love this camera, maybe I also prefer its black finish compared to the M8.2 black finish. I had sold it to my dealer when the M9 arrived in Sept. but bought it back when the M8.2 started with a sensor line problem. The M8 will probably end up in my son's hands sometime in the future. M8.2: Just had the sensor replaced for a line problem, other than that no hassles. Will more than likely sell this one. M9: I absolutley love this camera. I will get another M9 next year and most probably sell the M8.2.
mhoersch Posted December 30, 2009 Share #15 Posted December 30, 2009 The only thing the M9 has inspired me to do so far is to wait for an M10.
brill64 Posted December 30, 2009 Share #16 Posted December 30, 2009 if you sell or trade in your leica it will live a lonely life and have it's guts ripped out and be sold on for scrap and spare parts:eek: have a heart.. not worth it..
Bo_Lorentzen Posted December 30, 2009 Share #17 Posted December 30, 2009 M6 staying. M8.2 hmmmm. its not seeing much action right now, I suspect it will be traded for a M9 backup. Like others I really DON't like to sell cameras, most of them stay for ever... but there is a little catch here, electronic cameras need to be powered to keep memory settings etc. So if I keep the 8.2 for ever, then Im ending up with maintaining it and charging it probably on a monthly rotation, pop in a fresh battery. Unlike the M3 it do need feeding regularly. Not sure how I feel about that part, think it is easier to have a spare M9 and keep both in use rotation.? Guess this is new issue opening up going from the first to the second digital M camera. .
chrism Posted December 30, 2009 Share #18 Posted December 30, 2009 I sold an M8, an M8.2 but kept the M7. The hardest thing for me to learn is not to sell a lens (the punishment for such stupidity is being forced to buy it again). Chris
innerimager Posted December 30, 2009 Share #19 Posted December 30, 2009 Sold my 2 M8s for the M9. I agree that it's a fabulous camera and if I had to have 1 M it would be the one. But film is different and I still will shoot film B&W. So Ill keep my 2 M7 bodies (0.72 and 0.85) and also my M3 which is still the best 50mm finder and also was painted by Shintaro and is too beautiful to let go. I will sell my M5.
