A forum member asked the Leica people at a presentation in Germany before Christmas about a new firmware for the M8. He had no precise information, but said that it would "only" take some weeks time. So in the first half of January 2010 we should know more.

To tell the truth, I don't really see what a new firmware for the M8 could bring - except getting rid of the red shift using the 18mm-Elmar. It seems as if the red shift issue is the real reason why the firmware (also for the M9) isn't published yet. There are beta-versions around, though they seem to be painstaking in testing (this time).

Manual selection of non-coded lenses as can be done with the M9? Whether Leica would or not is, of course an other question.

Not only for the 18mm Elmar, but also for the 28mm Summicron. I saw it for the first time this winter photographing a scene with snow. It was fairly easy to correct in Lightroom, but you would think that Leica would have perfected the correction by now especially given that it's their camera, their lens and their UV/IR filter! But on a lighter note, Happy New Year to all! -Norm
