Yes, my dream for this type of camera is a GF-1 that is made by Leica. On second thought, I could skip the red dot and pay half. I just did. Really, if the X1 can't equal or surpass the GF-1 then what's the point? I put a Voigt optical viewfinder on the camera with the 20(40)mm f/1.7 lens and I am good to go. Plus, I get interchangeable lenses, a much better LCD, EVF option and HD video recording. Leica must try harder next time on a compact camera. We already know they can make a superb micro 4/3 lens - the 45 f/2.8 ASPH macro-elmarit is a jewel and costs less than $900. P.S. I love my M9 and M lenses, so we know what they're capable of doing. I´ve used M-Leicas roughly 38 years and all of them have been fantastic cameras. But during these years I haven`t seen very promising point-and-shoot own models (exept CM). Every single camera will be important for the factory in the future - so is X1. That is why it`s bit difficult to understand why the model which costs at least twice compared to any other model has reported shortcomings. The fact is that every digital compact camera which has fixed LCD on the back and no optical viewfinder and/or T&S screen are pain to use when light comes from back of the photographer. They are also almost impossible to use if you want to take close ups down the earth level or try to take some shots above others head, or use the camera in those difficult small places recording details in the buildings etc. (I`m familiar with the display options in D-LUX3 and D-LUX4). What we have here is a wonderful camera with great lens and fine, arge sensor but no effective image stabilization, no real manual focusing, slowish autofocus... Those thinghs must be ok in the modern, very expensive camera. This is PS, not M9. It has neither (yet) the status of M-cameras, nor you can use any other lens with it. I can live with relative slow AF, I don`t need IS, I`m hapy with high quality ISO 400 - everything higher is extra for me, but most of the new customers will demand more. And when Canon and Nikon and perhaps Samsung come out with their models Leica must be ready to answer - not two or three years later. BR, Esa Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

So far the rumored cameras from these manufactuers seem much larger than the X1 (between X1 and DSLR). Of course, it is only rumors. Additionally, they are vaporware right now, the X1 is not. And yes, I have used an X1 for a short period of time, so this is not based on conjecture. I am waiting for someone who has used both cameras to give us convincing evidence to the contrary.
