I am delaying my M9 purchase until next year after taxes. Aside from any glitches the camera may have in early production, plus future refinements which are bound to come (one of the reasons why I waited one year to buy my CHROME M8 which may I add still looks like new despite 40,000 exposures and works fine, who is also waiting in the hope Leica will give us REAL CHROME as a choice. For $7,000 USD, they should, considering the large price tag.

I know the people at Leica monitor this site, so if they are reading, please, for the sake of your good and loyal customers, give us chrome for the M9, please!

I was all for chrome. I have been buying chrome for the last 35 years. Out of desperation (grey seemed worse..) I bought a black M9. Now, after three months, I am glad I did. My next, if any, Leica M will be black....And it wears quite well too. My chrome M8s and M6TTL before that started to collect their first scratches and scuffs after a few months. The M9 is a lot better. It seems to be quite a hard-wearing coating.

From an aesthetic and wear perspective I've preferred chrome - my Chrome M6, M7 & M8.2 all looked great and were noticeably harder wearing than my black chrome M8. That said, my black M9 seems pretty robust although I confess that if a chrome version was available I'd buy it. I've yet to see the grey in person and this was my initial choice (in the absence of chrome). In the end the wait for grey was too long ...

So am I holding out for chrome? No - happy with black. Would I buy chrome if available in the future? Definitely.

what was the reason for going with grey instead of chrome with the m9? does anyone know or have read/heard from leica?

I'm not a betting man but I'll wager that it was manufacturing cost saving/streamlining on Leica's part ... although I can't believe it could account for much of a difference because they've been producing chrome cameras for eons. :(

just curious (am not up for an M9, I have black M8.2) is the reason for wanting chrome purely aesthetics or something else as well?regards andy

Andy,

I have a black paint M9 and am likely to want another M9 to use alongside it. I would prefer chrome to a second black one, but it's not a deal killer. Grey is out of the question for me whilst there is an alternative.

My recollections of chrome M3's/M6's are very positive and I trust a chrome M9 would be the most durable finish.
