wildlightphoto Posted December 27, 2009 Share #1 Posted December 27, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yesterday afternoon at Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge: technical stuff: R8/DMR, 560mm f/6.8 Telyt, moderate crop, twigs cloned out of UL corner. Heavy overcast light. Shutter speed was WAAAY too slow, I was using my truck as a blind & I wedged myself into an immovable position between the truck's passenger seat and the dashboard. Hand-held with shoulder stock. I deliberately took advantage of the 560's field curvature by placing the bird's head in the center of the viewfinder so that the back and tail, closer to the camera than the head, would be in the outer areas of the image circle. All comments welcome.

leicamann Posted December 27, 2009 Share #5 Posted December 27, 2009 Doug....great shot.... IMHO,, I would say that the "ONLY" way to get the Bald Eagle without the white crest being "blown" is on an overcast day, and yes unfortunately that means very slow shutter speeds, even at ISO 400. I also agree about that one peculiarity about the Telyt 400 and 560mm, is that even though your focus might be spot on, you have to pay attention to that curvature. I find at closer distances this is less of a factor...lastly...560mm x 1.37 = 767mm focal length..almost 800mm..one great advantage of the DMR and telephoto lenses Thanks for sharing.. I need to get up to Brackendale now!! Cheers, JRM
