jklotz Posted December 17, 2009 Share #1 Posted December 17, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I suppose I'm in the same boat as many of you. Waiting, waiting, waiting..... Just curious what your thoughts on this are. Do you think Leica has made a mistake by releasing a product that is not able to be produced in the numbers required to meet the demand? Should they have upped production? Do you think they have let you down as a loyal customer, or is it simply the way it is with Leica, and you are willing to wait patiently for your camera? d2mini Posted December 17, 2009 Share #2 Posted December 17, 2009 I think that considering their max capacity of 50 per day that they should have spent some time building up a supply of M9's in their warehouse before releasing them for sale. This wouldn't have gotten you one any earlier, but it would have made the perception that they were available quicker.
andybarton Posted December 17, 2009 Share #3 Posted December 17, 2009 I have learned to be very patient these last 7 months... They did have a supply of M9s in their warehouse before 9/9, but demand has been so great that they are struggling to cope. They have had third party supply problems (well documented here) and are, of course, only a small company. They are getting them out of the door as fast as they can. UliWer Posted December 17, 2009 Share #4 Posted December 17, 2009 ...Just curious what your thoughts on this are. ... Well, I find all the lamenting about having to wait and now even the fighting about who got one M9 or Summilux first, very ridiculous. Nobody takes away anything; a Leica camera or lens is nothing live or death depends on. Two or three months of waiting for such a thing does not cause famine nor sickness. What I see is just greed: I want to have! I must have! At once! Children who behave like that become unhappy. I see many unhappy children among Leica users. Frank Sprow Posted December 17, 2009 Share #5 Posted December 17, 2009 I've been really enjoying my M7 (with the original "full frame") while waiting for David Farkas to fork over my long awaited M9!

I agree with your premise for the relative few that are complaining, but I think it is reasonable to assume the majority of us are very patiently waiting, and waiting., and not complaining. We just happen not to blog so. In the distant past I used Leica, and went to Nikon may years ago. I, like many, have come back to the FF rangefinder for multitudinous reasons. If I had a M8 to work with, I might be even more patient. Not all of us are Greedy Children- of course it is easier to make that statement with a M9 in your hands Terry

If we want to blame, we should blame technology. Everything is much faster compare to 5 years ago. Internet is a good example. Now-a-days people complain about slow Internet connection if you have less than 1.5Mbps. Technology spoiled us. Nobody wants to wait.
Bill W Posted December 18, 2009 Share #9 Posted December 18, 2009 Like a lot of folks, I am patiently waiting for an M9. I do not blame Leica for my wait. I have been a Leica user for many years. I would rather wait a little longer and have my M9 be right right out of the box rather than get one not so right but right now. I can wait a little longer, I still have an old M8.2. jklotz Posted December 18, 2009 Author Share #10 Posted December 18, 2009 My original post was not intended to flame Leica. I was just curious as to what others thought. I find it interesting. As mentioned before, we live in a world where communications happen so quickly that we've come to expect things now. I was amazed that over in the thread about B&H, people have actually recreated their own list to try to determine exactly where on the waiting list they are. I'd imagine it's got to be a nightmare for B&H....
ILC32 Posted December 18, 2009 Share #11 Posted December 18, 2009 I am one of the people in the B&H thread. My concern is not waiting per se; it is and was the possibility that orders were not being filled in the order they were received. Thankfully, if appears that my concern was unfounded. If that concern is viewed as greedy or childish in some eyes, so be it. But I do wonder how posting over a 1000 messages to a forum about cameras demonstrates one's commitment to ending hunger and fostering world peace. . .
