I am intrigued - why so may MPs?

Wouldn't it be easier to change lenses?

"Where am I I going to sit?!"

Taken with Nikkor 28 1.4 AF-D on D3.

A recent shot from a photo expedition during which I was teaching photography to a pal.

There is a Nikon F3T with MD-4 mounted on a Nikkor 300 2.0 IF ED AIS and a Nikkor 600 4.0 IF ED AIS beside it on the floorboard. And a Leica M6 35 1.4 Summilux and a Leica M7 with Noct on the seat as well as my old Nikon F2AS. There is also a D3 with a 45 PC lens on the front seat.

I never understood the whole "one or the other", digital vs. film. Love them both.

It's so nice when teaching someone to be able to show them/for them to see the "chimp" screen. And then they can shoot it in film :p.

The main reason is that last year I found two MPs in basically unused condition priced so cheaply that it didn't make sense not to buy both. I don't claim to need 3 bodies, and if I sold one I'd make money on it, but the more I use them, the more I'm inclined to keep them.

Also, I use a 35-50-90 combination most of the time, and if you don't mind carrying three bodies, it can be nice not to need to change lenses when time is of the essence.

Another advantage is that you can have a different type of film in each body and use them selectively for different purposes; color and B&W or different ISOs.

Then there's the fact that I'm indulgent . . . :o

Hi

Probably a more serious problem than 'indulgent'.

I pack several cameras in a Gbag, to reduce the delay in loading film or swapping lenses, learnt to always use the same film in each, the hard way.

Normally 3 or 4 M2 or 3 or 4 Canon P in a gbag, and I do have spares, but no digcameras.

Hi, I am an amateur photographer and I am a compulsive buyer of cameras. I own the ff. film cameras: Contax G2 (w/ 4 lenses), Canon EOS 1V, Leica M6 (Classic) and the ff. digital cameras : Nikon D200, Canon G2, Canon 900 ti, Canon 400D, Canon 50D, Canon 5D, Canon 7D, Canon 5D MkII, Panasonic L1, LX2, LX3 and FZ50, Leica D-Lux 4. You might wonder why I have so many cameras, it is because here in the Philippines, the 2nd hand market is not so active. You do not have stores like KEH, B&H, Adorama or Tamarkin who offer a fair market value for your used cameras. The 2nd hand market is virtually non existent. There is now a dwindling number of film developers. The first one to go was the developer of slide films and now there is only one store that still develops black and white and I feel that film developing is sadly reaching a near extinction stage. Of all my cameras, my favorite of course is my Leica M6 with four Carl Zeiss lenses (21, 28, 35 and 50)

which do not need an external viewfinder. If film developing disappears, I plan to develop my own b&w film by perhaps importing chemicals and equipment (2nd hand) from your Country. Black and White pictures seem to possess a certain mystical quality that color films lack. I apologize for the lengthy thread but this is my 1st input. Greetings to all of you!:)

As a confirmed film user and only occasional digital; all are film, two are digital. I shoot medium format as well as 35mm. Pentax 6x4.5 N AF, with lenses 45 to 300; A lovely vintage Rollie TLR with Zenotar f3.5; Mamiya 6x7II and 2 lenses. Digital Canon 40D with around 10 lenses (favorite is 200L f1.8) excellent with tele extenders. My little Leica Digilux-C-2. Right, 35mm film: 3 Canon EOS 3s, 3 Canon EOS 1N RT.and not forgetting my EOS RT. Around 10 lenses, all but a couple are 'L'. My treasures, Leica film: 1 M 6TTL 0.58, 2 M 7s, 0.58 and 0.72. Not forgetting my 'Rs', 2 R6.2s and one R7. Accompanied with a brace of R lenses. I was out this morning with an R6.2 and a roll of B&W 24 exp, process C 41.

The total lack of grain or fingerprint that you get with film looks odd; it's vaguely disconcerting in a way (to me, anyway).QUOTE]

Reminds me of what someone said on another post... a digital image is like a man shaving his legs...it's smooth all right, but there's something creepy about it.

Don't you still get limited dynamic range, noise and aliasing?

Hi

When I add up the Ms and Barnaks it is two figures. don't have a dig, other than low res mobile.

I have other cameras like Feds, Zorkis, Kievs, ContaxII, Nicca IIIs, Contas G1, F2, FM2,...

Currently:

M6 ttl .72

M6 ttl .85

Mamiya 7II

Mamiya 7II

Nikon F4

I sold my two MPs to help pay for the M9s, which are now sold. Stupid mistake. So I plan to replace them when I find the right deal.

I also am looking into a 645 system (probably mamiya) for when I need to shoot film and focus closer than the Mamiya 7 can or for when I need longer or faster glass. This will also give me the ability to rent digital backs for commercial shoots.

New to the forum. Lots of interesting topics.

Here's the film cameras I still own and how long I've owned them:

Canon TX - 34 years (first real camera, don't use much anymore)

Canon F1n - 5 years (replaced the one sold 20 years ago that I used as a photojournalist. Still use it regularly with an 85 F1.2 L lens)

Nikon F4s - 12 years (main film SLR these days)

Nikon FM2 - 14 years (back up film SLR, not used as much)

Leica M6 TTL - 10 years (first RF and a solid shooter)

Leica IIIf Red Dial - 6 months (the new love of my life with 50 mm Summicron)

Rolleiflex 2.8D - 2 years (first TLR and wonderful to shoot with)

Hasselblad 500CM - 2 years (first medium format, not the best hand holder)

Brownie Reflex Synchro - 1 year (my mom's 62 year old camera that I restored after she died. Takes interesting pictures)

Think that's all of them.

Best,

-Tim

Still got 2 customised M6's (MP viewfinder & 0.72/3 frames).

I have recently acquired a Panasonic LX3 which is surprising me with its capabilities. I really can't justify keeping 2 M6's now, so the chrome one will probably be sold soon.

Chrome one now sold to free up funds. Down to the black body & 35/50/90 Summicrons, mixed feelings as we've travelled many miles together, but at the end of the day it is only a tool and it has gone to a good home.
