How many film cameras do people still own and use?

I have plenty of film in the freezer but few film cameras to shoot it with. In truth, although I like the aesthetics of film, I don't feel much inclination to shoot the stuff. The only film cameras I have now are an MP (which I'll probably flog this year), an 0-series replica (which, despite being a lovely little thing, is borderline chocolate teapot in terms of its usefulness) and an NPC-195 Polaroid pack film camera. I do also have a couple of SX-70 cameras but with only one (well outdated) pack of film in the fridge, they might as well be used as small doorstops.

Digital - none.

Film - Leica Z2X, Leica M7 with 35 & 75 crons. Also a Nikon F80, FM2 with 24 & 50 primes and a few zooms.

The Leica set is my preferred travel kit these days, and more compact than the SLR stuff, I've gone back to shooting B&W and like to develop it myself so digital not really appealing at the moment. Also, even for colour I still have plenty of places close by that do C41 developing, and also do really good scanning.

A nice round number: 10 :)

1- MP

1- M3

1- IIIf RD

1- Leica Mini II

1- Zorki 1e

1- Canon Elan II

1- Yashica-D

1- Yasica Lynx 1000

1- Argus STL-1000

1- Nimslo 3-D Quad lens (just beginning to use)

I use all of these throughout the year, but it's the MP, M3, Mini II, and Elan II that really get used the most.

I have three film cameras which I use rarely (M7, an X-Pan, Rollei TLR).

I mostly use an M8 and a Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 as a handy compact.

The different technology means I use them very differently. For film I use high quality control and take few pictures - for digital, I splat leads of frames and am not as considered. My average film shot is definitely better than my average digital shot - because it is so easy to fire off loads of digital which results in endless deleting exercises... (not down to any major difference in the result).

I am a sucker for equipment and I am sure as with many things - less is more.

Keep with what you know and unless you have an obscene amount of money that you have to spend - free up the time spent researching new kit to take some photos! Unless of course you prefer the kit hunting to the end result, which is definitely true for some of us (I suspect I am guilty of this).

1 - M3 (SS)

1 - M6TTL (BP)

1 - M8classic

1 - Polaroid 110B converted to 4x5 instant film back

My M8 sees the light less often these days (I am sick of its focus issue and am not spend any more money on it). I am all set with the films cameras I have and do not need any more. Those will never leave me even though this planet goes filmless.

Film: MP

Digital: none

Beware the man with one camera. ;)

Yes!

I never snap more pictures than when I had just one leica.

Now I have: 2 M3, 2 M4P, 2 M6, 1 IIIc, 1 minolta with leica M mount, 1 500 c/, 1 Sony digital.

Usualy carry at lest one M body and 1 lens, when plenty of time to snap I carry 2 bodies and few lenses. Love M photography.

Just a new M7 for sentimental reasons with some use.

The MP is sold for the second time to the same guy and will stay there this time.

A R7 is sitting unused in the cabinet, along with a R8 which I never needed as backup for the R9/DMR combo.

The rest is digital as well (M, DL2 & D-Lux 4).

Over the past 4 years my picture viewing habits have silently changed completely - hardly any of the negatives got printed after scanning and hardly any of the digitals ever made it on paper either.

You could get a nice one though, if you just wanted.

I mainly use:

- Leica M6 black paint

- Olympus Om-2n

They are extraordinary on street.

I rarely use an Olympus E-3.

My experience is that for B&W and Highlight situations film is another planet, while digital is sometimes better for colors and low light situations..

ciao!

There are roughly ten around here:

III G

M2 (4x)

M5

M4- P

M6

SL2

R7

R9

several p/s (Z2x, CM)

There is always a film in the M2 (M6, R9 and the CM). Some of them

are pretty old, but they still work like a bunch of well looked after

sewing machines.

Best
