RPS Posted December 10, 2009 Share #4 Posted December 10, 2009 While I appreciate the motivation behind this effort, I'd rather find a way to discuss my R-system questions here on LUF. This is a great forum, populated by passionate and talented Leica photographers. I want to be loyal to LUF and I'm not ready to bolt from here just yet. farnz Posted December 10, 2009 Share #5 Posted December 10, 2009 So we'd need to register an identity on Facebook? No thanks, Alexander. Was I dreaming recently when I read that FB suddenly decided that it owns copyright of all images posted on its website? Pete.
atufte Posted December 10, 2009 Author Share #6 Posted December 10, 2009 So we'd need to register an identity on Facebook? No thanks, Alexander. Was I dreaming recently when I read that FB suddenly decided that it owns copyright of all images posted on its website? Pete. You have to register an identity here as well, so i don't see the difference... Just copyright your images, (which is done by my camera automatic) and you are safe, because the only only one "owning" a image with you copyright, is you... so this is no problem either. atufte Posted December 10, 2009 Author Share #7 Posted December 10, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) While I appreciate the motivation behind this effort, I'd rather find a way to discuss my R-system questions here on LUF. This is a great forum, populated by passionate and talented Lieca photographers. I want to be loyal to LUF and I'm not ready to bolt from here just yet. There is no disloyalty in this...we tried to have our own R sub forum, but did not get it, so we took matter's in our own hands, i do not see any disloyalty in this. And i agree, this forum is a superb place for discussing everything Leica (almost everything), but for a Leica -R user only it's difficult to use, because it's a needle in the haystack to find stuff without a sub forum... I will of course still use this forum, since i use M's as well.. And BTW, i started a M8 forum way back on FB, and it now has over 500 members, this is NOT a rival forum, just an extra resource for the Leica user...everything does not have to be a competition... stunsworth Posted December 10, 2009 Share #8 Posted December 10, 2009 How many Rs did Leica sell? How many DMRs?

atufte Posted December 10, 2009 Author Share #10 Posted December 10, 2009 How many Rs did Leica sell? How many DMRs? A lot more than the X1 will ever sell, that's for sure...

farnz Posted December 10, 2009 Share #12 Posted December 10, 2009 You have to register an identity here as well, so i don't see the difference... A fair point but the more identities we have the greater the risk of identity theft. Especially since Facebook's latest update to its privacy settings appears to jeopardise privacy. Just copyright your images, (which is done by my camera automatic) and you are safe, becausethe only only one "owning" a image with you copyright, is you... so this is no problem either. It appears that Facebook has since dropped its attempt to control copyright of images on its website so all is well with this concern. I wish you success with Facebook page but I regret that it's not for me. Pete.
stunsworth Posted December 10, 2009 Share #13 Posted December 10, 2009 A lot more than the X1 will ever sell, that's for sure... That wasn't the point I was making - but I bet Leica sell more X1s in the next 12-18 months than they have R cameras in the last 5-10 years. Leica sold thousands of R film cameras and a handful of DMRs, and yet the digital section of the forum was chosen to host this particular debate. It seems a strange decision, that's all. Especially since Facebook's latest update to its privacy settings appears to jeopardise privacy. So just make a "John Doe" identity, i would love to see Mr.J.Doe over there..;-) and you do not have to worry about identity theft, if that ever should be a problem...(even though i do not see the problem, since we all choose ourself what to share on FB, and if nothing of great value is shared on your FB profile, how can this be a problem?) Leica sold thousands of R film cameras and a handful of DMRs, and yet the digital section of the forum was chosen to host this particular debate. It seems a strange decision, that's all. The Leica R system is much broader than the X1 system will ever be, so it will never be matched, do you think you can find 789 Leica X1 items on ebay in a years time?, because that's today's status for the R-system...The R system will live on because of it's huge amount of lenses, and the X1 will die a quick death after newer technology becomes available... mgcd Posted December 10, 2009 Share #16 Posted December 10, 2009 While I appreciate the motivation behind this effort, I'd rather find a way to discuss my R-system questions here on LUF. This is a great forum, populated by passionate and talented Leica photographers. I want to be loyal to LUF and I'm not ready to bolt from here just yet. Who is bolting? The two are not mutually exclusive at all. Loyalty also cuts both ways. So if an R Forum is not available here and I certainly have been here for much longer than anyone else on this forum (as an original member preceding even the old Leica Forum...), there is nothing wrong with joining with like minded R users on another Forum at all. Not leaving just adding... Cheers,
earleygallery Posted December 10, 2009 Share #17 Posted December 10, 2009 Hmm I've got mixed feelings about this. I am an R user by the way. I don't really see a conflict as many here are also on rangefinder forum (I don't bother with it and can't even register there anyway for some reason) and there are numerous photography groups on facebook already, but at the same time I'm not sure exactly what the benefit of an R user facebook group might be. There is of course the option to start an R specific group here in the 'social groups' section which would seem much more appropriate IMHO. For the moment I will watch and see how it progresses. These groups and sub forums are only worthwhile if people have stuff to say and / or contribute, and I'm not sure what we need to know about R equipment that hasn't already been discussed on this forum or can't be discussed here with adequate input. Good luck with it anyway.

atufte Posted December 10, 2009 Author Share #19 Posted December 10, 2009 So the status for today's R-system is that people are trying to get rid of the kit rather than keep it? No, the status is that the R system will always have something to offer for a much larger audience than the X1, which you really can not even call a system....why all this flaming of the R system, i really do not understand what is so negative about it, i have used the Leica system for a decade, and i have compared the quality of R to M in real life for years and think they equally good just to different systems...why can't we respect both...? Jamie Roberts Posted December 11, 2009 Share #20 Posted December 11, 2009 I'd like to join, but I've just about had it with Facebook. Every 2 weeks, my business domain email gets locked out from the thing. Why? Because, evidently, it's been reported as "abusive" by Facebook users. I honestly can't fathom how that is, and I understand spoofing. What I think is happening is FB just runs a dumb script every now and then and locks me out. I don't get it. I don't use it enough for it to be a base for evil activity--even for scripts. So FB annoys me more than most things. If I can get this fixed, I'll join the group.
