Thumbs Up way too tight

I bought a Thumbs Up a few weeks ago, the CSEP with the accessory shoe. It was very tight on the M8.2 but I managed to get it off and thought that maybe it would be better on the M9. Well I have filed it down some, brass showing all around the edges and bottom of it and its still way too tight on the M9. I don't think if I force it on there that I'll be able to get it off. Is this normal? Is there a trick? Probably too late to return it since I've hacked it with the file.

Thanks!

Yes its very, very tight on my M9.

It occured to me that because I take the Thumbs Up on and off a lot (I don't like it spoiIing the lines of the camera all the time) it may eventually open up the nice tight hot shoe through wear or sheer force. So I filed some brass off the Thumbs Up until it was just tight, not insanely tight. The Thumbs Up is a slightly crude casting (but nicely finished) and obviously relies on fine tuning by hand before it is shipped, so I'd guess the tighter shoe of the M9 needs factoring in or another model made for the M9. But its only one or two thousandths that needs to come off.

Yes I find it very tight too.

It even leaves brass residue on the edges every time I take it off.

Not entirely a bad thing, as I have now grown accustomed to holding the m9 totally naked. - The camera, not me...:p

No leather case, no thumbs-up, no M-grip.

Just the camera and my Billingham.

I find it to be an interesting return to basics to support the weight of the camera in my left hand, using my right hand to "fire" away.

Does take a bit of getting used to, though.

I find, however, the thumbs-up to be the best third party accessory for an M9, along with the Luigi case.

As for those who want to use the thumbs-up on the M9 on a regular basis, I believe removing a little brass, reducing some thickness might indeed be the solution.

The hot shoe flanges (the bit with the serial number on it and its twin) and the springs underneath tend to loosen up a bit with time and use, so the manufacturers usually start them at the tight end - same for the Canon 5D I had. My M9 shoe is already a bit smoother/looser than it was 3 months ago right out of the box. I use a 21 finder or an adapter with a PC plug in the shoe most of the time, which have probably helped "break in" the shoe springs.

I guess this suggestion is too late, since you've already attacked your Thumbs-Up with a file - but I discovered that a little candle wax on the edges works wonders.

For me it wasn't too much of an issue anyway, because once fitted, the only reason I've since removed my Thumbs-Up has been to clean the camera body (a rare event, related to the phases of the moon and strange supernatural occurences).

My 5D was very tight too - some brass showing on it now. A friend's 1DSMkIII on the other hand is far too slack a fit so some variation seems to exist everywhere.
