Advertisement Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 Hi mobeyone, Take a look here Lens.. fungus.. OMG. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
mobeyone Posted December 9, 2009 Author Share #2 Posted December 9, 2009 Just thought I should add that the line appears on the inside of the lens.. and again very faint and running along the inside right of the lens.
wparsonsgisnet Posted December 9, 2009 Share #3 Posted December 9, 2009 Can you take a picture of this with your M9 or S2? Just kidding. This may be an artifact that you are seeing in the sunlight. Can you also see it in diffuse light? It seems unlikely that you'd have fungus on a camera so new.
mby Posted December 9, 2009 Share #4 Posted December 9, 2009 Are you located in the tropics or humid climate?

Here is a photo.... if you look at the largest reflection in the lens, you can see a line running along the lens.... looks like something has leaked into the lens? Flickr Photo Download: Fungal or no fungal infection... Would appreciate any thoughts and nope.. live in the UK, the camera is stored on a shelf most times and I do try and keep it clean.. farnz Posted December 9, 2009 Share #6 Posted December 9, 2009 My advice is that if you suspect fungus to keep your D2 and other cameras and lenses completely separate to lessen the risk of the fungus infecting them too. I've heard that's a good idea to leave an affected lens unmounted in strong sunlight for a few days (yes, I'm in the UK too ) taking precautions to prevent anything catching fire from focussed sunlight and with the lens wide open to prevent the sunlight from affecting the diaphragm. Not sure what to do with a camera like your D2 where the lens is fixed though. If it's any consolation, Malcolm Taylor expertly removed the fungus from my 80 Summilux-R last month fairly inexpensively so you have an option if it is fungus. Pete. mobeyone Posted December 9, 2009 Author Share #7 Posted December 9, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks Pete, I have also read that UV light (energy saving bulbs) can be a good way of treating this too... That said, it looks like something has seeped inside... have to wait I suppouse to see what happens and if it worsens.. Do you have an email address for Malcolm? if this is the dreaded f.. then I would want to sort asap.
luigi bertolotti Posted December 9, 2009 Share #8 Posted December 9, 2009 Looks to me "too straight" to be fungus... is there anyone who has an image of the lens schema ? I found only an image in the brochure... the front group seems composed by at least two glasses, but is unclear... I think it could be a "line of separation" between two cemented elements, induced by stress or something (or, worst, a microcrack)... from the pic, seems that reflection is someway different at the two sides of the "line" ... a picture taken with a angle-incident diffuse light could be revealing. earleygallery Posted December 9, 2009 Share #9 Posted December 9, 2009 I don't think that's fungus, as Luigi says its too straight. Are you sure it wasn't there all the time? Sure its not a cleaning mark (it appears that theres a line running just inside the edge of the lens too, to me). Personally I'd ignore it for now, just use the camera, but keep an eye on it in case the line becomes worse which would definately indicate separation or a crack. There is a thread here somewhere about a Kodak lllc with fungus - you can see what it looks like on a link posted there. I also mentioned in the same thread about my fathers lllc which always had a crack in the front lens element, but never caused any problems with the images at all. SJP Posted December 10, 2009 Share #10 Posted December 10, 2009 Fungus looks like fungus - hence the name i.e. spots of stuff usually randomly located on the lens. Imagine a Petri dish with culture. I.e. this is not fungus. I would use the lens as normal and forget about it.

pleeson Posted December 13, 2009 Share #15 Posted December 13, 2009 That's along the edge of the internal masking behind the front element. Probably a little glue, but not fungus.
