I was out for a walk today, when a photographer caught my eye, first i thought it was some

old analog Leica R, but then i saw him "chimping" on the large LCD screen on the back it suddenly became more interesting, i was trying to catch up with him, but i was carrying my 2 month old baby, so

i just got a snap with my iPhone in crappy quality, i walked off to give my baby to my girlfriend, but when i had my hands free, he was gone...

What my brain collected in this short amount of time :

It was digital, because i saw a image he showed his friend while chimping.

It used a a R lens, i think a Summicron-R of some sort, maybe a 50)

It was a Leica camera i have never seen before...

Anyone have a clue what this is...?

It's not April 1st yet so taking this on face value.........

It's not any existing R camera for sure and its not one of the Vlux's so............maybe just maybe it is the talked about 'solution' for R lenses, but as Leica said there wouldn't be an R10 that doesn't quite make sense. Can you get any more detail out of that photo?

Maybe its a photographer with an inferiority complex and he's stuck a Leica badge onto his Samsung DSLR?

How about a (modified) S2, heavily taped, with some kind of adapter for R lenses? Er, no, that wouldn't really make sense, would it? Certainly a prototype and we'll never know what it was... :p

No, the adapter would some how have to manage to 'sink' the lens into the body if it were to work and that would be impossible.

Its not an R8 or R9 or any other previous R model.

Looks very bulky which make me thing along S2 Baby model or Lumix edition.

Thing is the design just doesn't look like anything existing, except the handgrip that the V-Lux 1 also had a kind of (looks ugly)

Che chrome between the lens and the house - could that be an adapter?

But 95% sure it's the 50mm Summicron-R f/2.0 with an uv-filter

Definitely not an R8 or R9... It looks quite Canon..ical...?

Is that camo tape?

Regards,

Bill

No, it was not a R8/9 DMR, i have used this setup myself for years, so it's definitly not that

camera, it was about the size/shape of a D700, so it was not a G1 Lumix either, and yes it

looked like some sort of camo/tape or similar?, which made it even harder to tell what it was...

You were close enough to make this photo, but not to ask questions... BS! ;)

I was carrying a baby, and was about to talk to him after letting my baby off, which was crying her (and my) head off, it's that easy actually...

I'm just messing with you, but baby in one arm, iPhone in the other? :D

You really are a Leica lover to take such risks. :p

Nah. A TRUE Leica lover would have engineered a baby-related diversion, maybe by flinging the infant at the startled photographer... By reflex action he would (probably) have caught the child, at which point Alexander could have wrestled the camera from the man's shoulder and had a really good look.

Alternatively if he had been in an American "shopping mall" he could have shouted "Stop taking photos of my baby!!!" in a very loud voice. In moments the man would have been wrestled to the ground by "mall cops" and anti-paedophile vigilantes and he could have, once more, had a look at his leisure. :D
