jaapv Posted December 5, 2009 Share #1 Posted December 5, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just picked up a factory-new R8, with full new guarantee. The shop had quite a number of them. It was rather amazing. How long ago that production of this model stopped? Ten years?

Nicoleica Posted December 6, 2009 Share #2 Posted December 6, 2009 And for less than the cost of getting your old camera repaired too! I'm happy to hear that you got one OK.
topoxforddoc Posted December 6, 2009 Share #3 Posted December 6, 2009 Jaap, Yup, why repair when you can buy a new one with a full Passport warranty?
masjah Posted December 6, 2009 Share #4 Posted December 6, 2009 Jaap, Yup, why repair when you can buy a new one with a full Passport warranty? And if I recall correctly, the basic warranty on the R8 (though not the Passport of course) unlike the R9, is for 5 years. At least, that was the position in the UK. Shootist Posted December 6, 2009 Share #5 Posted December 6, 2009 Now we know one more reason Leica hasn't and probably will not continue the R line into digital. I suspect there are near equal numbers of R9's out there new, unused, on various dealers shelves, depending on the real production numbers of the R9. The bigger dealers just writing them off as a loss at some point.
