Advertisement Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 Hi lct, Take a look here Small flash for Leica M8?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
JSU Posted December 6, 2009 Share #22 Posted December 6, 2009 I have a couple of Vivitar 225's which are small and powered by a pair of AA batteries. One had the shoe mount broken several years ago which I repaired by epoxying a replacement 283 shoe to the stump on the 225. This serves to elevate the flash tube an additional 3/4" which helps reduce the potential for red eye and provides a shoe mount lock. The 225 takes the same coiled sync cord as the 283 but alas the M8.2 has no PC plug. Sooner or later I may concoct a PC to hot shoe adapter from another replacement 283 shoe mount and a PC plug salvaged from a broken Vivitar shoe mount slave. The 225 gives nice auto exposure at F-5.6 and F-8.0 with the M8.2 set to ISO 160. The 225 with the replacement 283 shoe mount also has a cut down wide angle diffuser (likewise from a 283) epoxied in front of the flash tube. This softens the light and spreads it out a bit, as would be expected.
Guest tvleeskr Posted December 7, 2009 Share #23 Posted December 7, 2009 In case of urgency (not enough available light) I use a Leica CF. Bought it for € 20 and it works fine on 2 AA's. No tilt or diffuser, but I ensure long enough shutter time so that it complements the available light only. It fits into my shirt pocket.
