I almost wept, I just lost my 12 year old Bouvier "cody" to cancer I will miss him always. David, I can’t believe there is another Bouvier person here. You have my heartfelt sympathy. We lost an 11 year old March 04, and another 11 year old November 05, both from Cancer. Tragically the brightest light in the house died at age four a few weeks ago. It is like going from a grade school recess to an old folks home. Look at the bottom two rows on this page. People who have not shared this have no idea what they are missing. Robert, the sun was no longer visible, but it had been located to the left of Niko’s eye in the top photo. I don’t see any color fringing in the top photo - I am on my laptop now, but I remember the filtered (top) shot as being very true to the actual colors. I took a couple of shots of a green tree with and without the filter at 4PM. The filtered shot shows the true colors, but the unfiltered one is not too bad after you work it in C1 and then PS. I took some photos outside yesterday, and interestingly, the unfiltered photos are better (more accurate). This was around 11:30 in the morning. I think what we may be seeing is varying percentages of IR as the position of the sun changes. I also took a few unfiltered snaps under fluorescence lights today - I set the camera for tungsten when I took them, then later noticed my mistake, so I chose the fluorescence setting in C1, and they look to be accurate. I’ll try to post them here or on a web site later. Maybe we need to carry a small color temp meter with us, like the hand held meters we used to tote around. Anyway, what you need to be carrying in your pocket is this thing... WhiBal Gray Card for Digital Photo White Balance - RAW Workflow Seriously--it's worth it weight in gold. Set the camera to something that will give you an OK visual confirmation, like daylight. I don't care if tungsten is warm. Then shoot (even oof) the WhiBal card. Then shoot away at whatever you want. When the light changes, shoot another WhiBal shot. When you get home and into C1, just click on the WhiBal shot and "copy" the White Balance setting to all the shots in that same light with the copy icon in C1. Voila--perfect WB every time. (because mine, a new one, go back to solms for a focusing problem with my M8; my french dealer had told me it is the second one he had sold for the M8 and both have the same problem). Regards. Yeah, look at the difference between the 1Ds2 and the M8 - feeling the difference is even more impressive. I can take the M8 and four lenses in a care too small to fit even the 1Ds2 with a 35mm f1.4 (which I just dropped and broke). I do not understand why the Noctilux performs like this. I remember seeing a b & w someone posted - they said it was at f1.0, and my immediate reaction was this was not possible. But then I saw the OOF areas, and immediately recognized them. Some of you guys should be able to explain this phenomena to us. Welcome, dear visitor! Do you still have a bouve? Yes, we have Niko, who will be nine on Dec 26, and Shadowfax who celebrated her 12th birthday on August 16th. We also have a fairly frail little Chow (she was my son’s dog) who is 14. Niko is still active and full of energy, but the other two are old folks. I believe there are two upcoming litters in France from Bouviers closely related to Niko and Kona. I love their energy, enthusiasm and especially their intelligence. During our daily games this summer I was required to match wits with Kona, and the truth is, the deck was definitely not stacked in the primate’s favor. It looks like the Noctilux will be the one.> I agree. I took it and used it today. Since I bought the 50 f1.4 ASPH, I have not used the Noctilux, but it is amazing on this camera. If I take two shots, one with each of these lenses, I know I will see the difference, but even so, the sharpness at f1.0 and the classically beautiful out of focus areas really are special. David - there is a concert (a friend is playing) Sunday nightat 6:30 at the National Gallery of Art. I am bringing an M8, but unfortunately they discriminate, so Niko has to stay home.
