ryee3 Posted November 28, 2009 Share #1 Posted November 28, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) My flatbed scanner canon 9900f has a film inside the glass. Is it simple enough to clean it myself or do I need to send it in. Anyone encounter this before and has a simple solution? Thanks:)

Anyone encounter this before and has a simple solution? Thanks:) Some years ago, I had this scanner's predecessor, the 1250UF. The glass got very dirty inside. I called Canon up and they told me it was a sealed unit and the glass could not be cleaned. I hope they have improved this aspect. If you are going to do it, you will almost certainly need weird screwdrivers (square/triangular/star with central hole etc). I have just bought a Epson V700 Perfection but before I did, I made sure that the glass could be removed for cleaning, both on the main deck and the upper transparency scanner. Anyone encounter this before and has a simple solution? Thanks:) What a coincidence: only this week I was giving up hope of ever getting inside the 8400F model and cleaning the underside of the glass plate. Found this link and it worked, so now I have an as-new scanner at no extra expenditure! Maybe some clues there for the model you have, with a bit of luck. The photo-i review suggests it's similar in the way it is built. How to Clean a Canon 8400F scanner
Michael Hiles Posted November 28, 2009 Share #4 Posted November 28, 2009 Microview, Blessings on you and your extended family. And you neighbours, and whoever services your car... I have an 8400F (which I love). It does not need a cleaning yet, but it surely will, and I would have had no idea how to proceed.

Take courage – as they say – as you won't end up with a collection of broken unusable pieces. Even that front section eases off and the plastic tabs should not fracture, or anything when you slide a screwdriver blade between the two casing halves!
