.................

These aren't orphan cameras like the V-Lux (fortunately), or entry cameras like the C-Lux line. They're cameras that have been put to good, professional use since day one.

As have both my V-Lux, C-Lux2 and C-Lux3 all have paid for themselves several times over; it's not the tool..............

I would support a separate forum for the D2; I was a pain in the arse to the management about getting a separate M8 forum (because of all the crap that was clogging the digital forum). This case is different; I really believe that history will see the D2 as a landmark camera, there truly is nothing like it. What a shame that they did not think of upgradeable firmware, the lens is superb- witness all the fabulous quality shots with only 5mp, just think what would be possible with a state of the art sensor.

The idea of diverting heavy M8 and M9 traffic into their own forum is a good idea so that other treads doesn't drown in them.

But in my opinion the digital forum should contain X1, S2, processing and all digital stuff then.

The forum is about following things, getting ideas, solutions etc, and I tend to check only M9, Customer Forum and Digital Forum. And then from time to tome the S2 and X1. I probably miss out on interesting stuff but I simply don't have the time or interest to open all doors to all sub-forums to see what's there.

It would be better overview if things were in the same place. And if D2 then should have it's own place ... I don't know. I tend to find D2 treads anyways. Basically I would prefer one forum and then select the treads in there I want to follow. And then if 90% is about one camera, it's a good idea separating those as it was done with the M8 an M9.

For historic reasons a D2 forum would be nice and handy. But if one can search for them, then...

But from a forum editor viewpoint, what I would like, was to have as many people visit and get an overview as possible - and hopefully make them interested in other types of gear, insight into digital development, have them see some of the pictures posted, etc. In short, one big mess that could be managed and overviewed by the users. But lots of inspiration, exchange and traffic.

Apart from that, could we get an updated Digilux 2 camera :D

The forum could be filled up with sub forums for almost every single Leica camera ever produced.

Are you aware that there is a D2 users group within the 'community' section? This seems to provide the solution. Given that the D2 is a mature product now is there that much new to discuss about it I wonder, to warrant a new sub forum of its own?

I'm obliged to James for pointing out the Community section to me; I was not aware that it ;and I've been here since before the forum software change.

If I can find my way through the German language, I'll see what is in there.

most of these issues could be resolved if

1. tags were mandatory hereafter (required input data from the original poster)

2. the defined/allowable tag list is not large ..... maybe tags only call out camera model under discussion (?) .... a few buttons (not a field entry that allows spelling errors or any string the poster may imagine) that the writer must select from in order to post a new topic. (buttons for M9, M8, D2, etc)

3. some poor hapless person somehow tags every D2 thread that has already been posted.... (or some sharp young "code poet" writes a slick piece of software to do it)

then the searcher clicks on the D2 button and gets all those postings.

i know ..... i know .... it is easier said than done, but, hey blame John T. ..... he started this (big grin).

Folks,

I like the Digilux 2 too but we're not going to extend the forum structure further.

As already mentioned we can use tags and the social group feature.

Best regards from Bonn

Andreas

Move along now, nothing to see here.........

I was asked if I'm going to grant the right to users to tag other members's threads.

Good news: The feature is already there - well hidden at the end of each thread page:

Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here…

Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members!

I'll try to find a place for the tag cloud on the home page, stay tuned.

Best regards from Bonn

Andreas

this tagging actually works pretty decent.

i just edit-tagged my old D2 posts using the *preset* tags digilux2 and digilux-2 and then simply *searched on those two specific tags* and bang it pulled up every topic correctly.

unfortunately you can't use "D2" as a tag, but you can copy-paste the tag text from one edit to the next.

it's not warm and cozy as our own club house, but it's a fair compromise i think.

we should encourage each other to get back there and tag what we didn't in the first place (smile)

Add my voice to this chorus. If Andy thinks the D2 is orphaned, then he hasn't owned this sublime camera. If he has, I can't for the life of me understand the use of that term. Mine sits on my desk or night table. I use it almost everyday, far more often than any other camera. More than my DMR, M3, M2, CL, or various R bodies. It is far more attractive to look at than any M8 or M9 and renders a unique signature. It is a monument to design & function.

I think it is in Andreas' interest to create communities that are cohesive. If the current moderators are over worked, bring in new blood. That certainly would be an asset and an improvement. We currently have 4-5 men, some of whom preform almost no visible service. It would be a good thing to bring new perspectives in moderators, including women and image makers that aren't just interested in the newest products. I don't think the Forum should be shackled by the lack of oversight, if that's the core of the problem. I have raised this issue before without any substantive reply.

Andreas:

Not to be arugmentative... but isn't the "Scocial Group" feature an extension of the Forum structure... albeit a dysfunctional one? Frankly, it is cumbersome and relatively useless. The feature itself was created as a stopgap by Jelsoft to bridge the "social networking" phenomena.

But, to the point, it is still an extension of the Forum's structure. I think the activity (or lack of) when compared to Digilux 2 discussion within the standard forum establishes that fact quite well.

While the Tag Cloud idea has its good, the bad here is the overlapping relevance in such a narrow niche. But more to YOUR point, isn't this yet another extension of the forum structure?

Again, not trying to be argumentative and hoping for a reasonable dialogue. I respect and appreciate the work you do... I own three of these little gems myself.

I'm hoping you'll give the idea more consideration and base your rethinking on the question of "how can this work and benefit the forum users" as opposed to simply using the criteria of preserving the Forum's existing structure.

Thanks,

John

In principle I agree.

But.....

You have noticed all D2 posts are directly in the Digital forum without having to click further into the M9 section for example.

So all you D2 fanatics. Keep on writing posts.

We have already our own section and that with one click less!!! :)
