M8 + 3 lens kit?

Well, that totally depends on your shooting style :)

Personally (having just bought my M8) I have the 40mm cv nokton. My 2nd lense will be the Zeiss 21mm f2.8 and third will be either 75 or 90mm.

I usually like to shoot wide so that's why I'm going for the 21mm Zeiss. From what I've understoon it matches quite nicely the "whole viewfinder". The 40mm Nokton I'll modify for 35mm framelines..

From your suggestions I wouldn't propably buy anything :) I would instead go for either 21 or 24mm lense. The 21mm translates into 28mm and the 24mm into 32mm.

Now, if you want to go for a classic set then the 24mm would propably be a good choice since 32mm is quite close to 35m. Also the M8 has framelines for 24mm lenses.

If you're more like me and like to shoot wide, then go for the 21mm. But then you have to consider either using external VF or use the whole vf.

Just my 2c,

Juha

Thanks for the reply :) I'm more of a "normal" shooter, hence my choice of 28 or 35. Though I am thinking of getting a 24 (or Zeiss 25, hear lots of good things about it!)... Eventually, I'm sure I'll be using a 2 lens kit, with the second being the 50 (and it takes me about 4-6 months of saving to get one lens) hence the importance of my choosing right. :)

The 28/75 combo is very classy. In the incarnation of a Summicron/Summarit or even a Summicron/VC Heliar it's probably one of the most versatile and high quality combinations. You can save some money of course if you take any of the alternatives for the 28. The Summicon is so good however, that I'd say it's worth saving for it. There are always offers around. The 28 is very natural for the M8 with respect to the framelines. You can add a 18 or 15 later.

Cheers

I am your plain jane everyday shooter (with an M8.2) who likes to travel and shoot day to day activities so I went with the:

15mm f4.5 Voigtlander - Used 30% time

35mm f2.5 Summarit - Used 60% time

90mm f2.5 Summarit - Used 10% time

Love the 15mm and find that I am using it more and more. Sharp as with "almost" no distortion.

The 35mm is a real gem and a fantastic "walkabout" lens. Small, light and tack sharp at f2.5.

With the 90mm I also use the 1.4x magnifier which has helped heaps in getting "in focus" shots. Another fun lens to play with.

I also use a +1.5 diopter as I'm long sighted and this has helped heaps with focusing. Highly recommend a diopter if you are a glasses wearer.

Thanks for the replies guys... I had a 90 elmar before, but found it too long for cropped sensors (used with an RD-1), so I got a 75 summarit. Interesting to see mentioned the 35-75 combo as I am seriously thinking about it, but I can't let go of the 50 (it's a Canon 50/1.2 btw, and I love its character despite the many who abhor it) and 35 - 50 seems too close to justify. Looks like the choice is down between a 24/25 and 28mm lens... if I go for the 24/25 range, I'm thinking of getting the Zeiss 25. The 28 summicron I'd love to have, but it's just too expensive :( The Elmarit is more within reach, and I've read good things about it as well...

I also *rarely* use the 75, and am thinking to go as long as 50mm only, but as I read around here somewhere, having a 75 and 90 is good for those times you might need it, even if you don't use it often... If I find a 35 summicron for a decent price, I might go for it, otherwise, a 25 biogon or 28 elmarit, then maybe a nice VC 35/2.5... (if life was perfect, I'd have the 24-35-50 summilux combo! If only...)

I also use 15-35-90. I use the CV15, a 35 cron and the 90 collapsible Macro Elmar (very compact). The 35 probably gets 80-90% use and depending on the conditions either the 15 either the 90 will get the remaining shots.

35 mm & 50 mm. tried the 28 mm and 24 mm and just did not like the view.

I'm with you here, sold my 28mm elmarit as just didn't like the perspective, my kit is 35/50/50fast & 90. incidently, I DID have a 15 voigt but couldn't get on with it....I love the 'pop' longer lenses have on the m8....just my £0.02 worth.

I have a 50 and 75... planning to get a wider, 3rd lens. Which 3 lens kit makes more sense, 28+50+75 or 35+50+75? Also, in case I want to go for a two lens combo, which would be more sensible? (ex. 28+50, 28+75 or 35+50, 35+75) Do I make sense? :)

I'm sorry, but don't you know what you want? This is a preference thing not a science.

My preference =

M8 ... 28 and 35

M-everything else ... 35 and 50

3 lenses = 28, 35, and 50 for M6 ... and 24, 28, 35 for M8.

Oh, I know what I want... I want them all! :) But I can afford just one lens a year, so I'm trying to gather as much opinions as I can to help me decide which to buy next.
