stuny Posted November 30, 2006 Share #2 Â Posted November 30, 2006 Richard - Â Very nice, and I like the almost monochrome look, and your offsetting the clock to the right. Probably shot from Pershing Square, directly across 42nd St. from Grand Central Terminal, or maybe from the edge of the sidewalk on the same side of the street. You might want to look at my full color, wider shot of this landmark on the second page of New York photos on our site. Â Â Before Pan American Airways' bankrupsy the MetLife building was called the Pan Am building, and one of our branches (our largest) is in there. Grand Central is actually Grand Central Terminal since no train lines go through it (the definition of a station), but instead tracks start/end there. Inside is a market (Lexington market) on the eastern side that has exceptional seafood, meats, cheeses, produce, baked goods and much more. Which reminds me, I need to pick up some more aged balsamic vinegar.
semrich Posted November 30, 2006 Author Share #3 Â Posted November 30, 2006 Stuart, Thanks for the comments. This was taken from the elevated street near the entrance of the Grand Hyatt, just a few steps from where I took the "A Little Color" shot. Â I have been in Grand Central "Terminal" so many times it is inexcusable for me to have made that mistake, and I have seen the PanAm sign for so many years it is still a shock to look up at that view and see MetLife instead. Â I was only in town on one Sunday during a week stay in Fairfield CT. If I posted all the photos from that day, you would soon notice my route to B&H Photo and back, a quick bite in the food court at the Terminal and the train back was my day there.
