So do you remove or cover up the nameplate/logos on your autos, tv, stove, fridge, etc? Personally, this is all a waste of time, I just take it out of the box and use it and forget about the nameplates/logos.

When you ordered your M8 did you specify black or chrome? Or did you say you'd take whatever was available? Just curious, since looks are so totally insignificant.

Black ones...no so much for stealth as I just am used to Leicas that are black. I tend to tape them up, too, whistfully hoping this will keep them from getting trashed. Taped, they are perhaps slightly more stealthy. I just cover the dot with a piece of tape, too.

I hadn't considered, until this thread how much my first M8 [one of the first 300 or so] reminded me of another Italian car I once owned. Ferraris were as much off the budget as an M9 is at the moment, but I had an Alfa GTA Junior--dual Morelli ignition--twice as unreliable [and twice as many plugs to foul or coils to fail] as any Alfa, Fiat or Fiat Abarth I ever owned. Just like the M8, a joy to drive/use when it was running [it was red with tan interior], but only as reliable as my repairman/mechanic. I had a back up for it, too [Fiat Abarth OT1000, if anybody remembers that dicey machine. It was only good as a back-up, 'cause it was even less reliable than the Alfa].

Bo--

Hope that won't be necessary with the M8's down the road. It would be a shame to have to cannibalize one to get parts. On the other hand, the way the dollar is going, and considering the last cost of the shutter upgrade, maybe a "beater" for parts will eventually turn out to be a good idea. [Then I can get my own set of tools...I seem to remember owning three sets of wrenches--American, Metric and Whitworth [!].

Cheers-
