ryee3 Posted November 16, 2009 Share #1 Posted November 16, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Looking to buy an R zoom for the general purpose shooting with my DMR. Any strong suggestions. Some are Japanese origin, should that make a difference in my choices? Thinking of a 28-70 vs a 35-70 f3.5 vs the 35-70 f4.0. Appreciate everyones comments. Advertisement Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 Hi ryee3, Take a look here R zoom lens recommendation; made in Japan?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
topoxforddoc Posted November 16, 2009 Share #2 Posted November 16, 2009 The 35-70/4 ROM is the one to have, as long as you're ok with the F4 max aperture.
k_g_wolf ✝ Posted November 17, 2009 Share #3 Posted November 17, 2009 Of the three mentioned ones, this is THE BEST unless you desp. want a 28 mm option. The f4 also has a macro-abilty of a splendid quality, on par with the 60 mm R-Macro- lens. It´s made by KYOCERA/ Japan and of a very good mechanical quality as well. You can´t go wrong with it, unless a 28-90 mm R lens (2.8) comes along. Best GEORG
jc_braconi Posted November 17, 2009 Share #4 Posted November 17, 2009 With the R8/DMR I use a 28-70 2nd version that is a Sigma design, its performance is higher than the previous Minolta design specially at 28 setting at the wider apertures. and a 80-200 that is a Solms design and really a fine lens to have. Although the 28-70 "Sigma" zoom is sharp enough, it has a quite high degree of distortion, which is quite visible in many cases. I agree with JC that the 80-200 Vario-Elmar is a delight. And I am still looking for a 28-90! Guy
