rick123 Posted November 30, 2006 Share #1 Posted November 30, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everyone, Happily satisfied with both the M6 for film and D-Lux 2 for digital, I had no interest in the M8 as it was approaching its launch. However, I caught the wave of excitement. But my enthusiasm dampened as the helpful members pointed out problems, limitations, and most of all complexities. Now I am thinking that for the price of 1 M8 one can buy 8 (Yes, 8!) D-Lux 3 cameras (with all the lenses one could possibly own for it & a flash to boot). Therefore, one can continue to upgrade to the newest D-Lux version camera (Leica or another brand) at a far limited expense! Rick
Advertisement Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 Hi rick123, Take a look here I think I have done a 360 with the M8 .... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
hyper67 Posted November 30, 2006 Share #2 Posted November 30, 2006 I also have the Dlux2 and have been quite happy shooting with it for more than a year. but I find it limiting in its capabilities, way too noisy at high ISO and quite slow. Depending on what you are doing I really dont think the two cameras compare and to be honest I am sure there are a bunch of digicams outhere that are very comparable to the Dlux2 below its price. egibaud Posted November 30, 2006 Share #11 Posted November 30, 2006 how many Smart cars can you buy for the price of one Rolls Royce? ... you are right... they are both called cars the Smart is a 2 sitter... well, I'll go for the Smart 4 four and buy less units then. Cameras are like children, they should not be compared or one of them will be offended. At the end what we want are good pictures, don't we?, then, as I see money is an important matter to you, I have a very cheap way to get pictures with top quality professional camera. BUY POSTCARDS !!!
stunsworth Posted November 30, 2006 Share #12 Posted November 30, 2006 Having hired a Smart Car for a couple of weeks, I can tell you that it's just like driving a 'normal' small car... until you look over your shoulder :-) My main concern was that there would be nowhere to put a suitcase. Not a problem, the car has a small boot.

jmr Posted November 30, 2006 Share #15 Posted November 30, 2006 Rick, it doesn't matter how good a photographer you are, you're never going to take a photograph with your D-Lux which is as good as many think their M8 pictures are JR (C-Lux photographer)
Vivek Iyer Posted November 30, 2006 Share #16 Posted November 30, 2006 Rick, Why don't you consider the Epson R-D1s? You can use your existing M lenses on it as well. No need to code them!
Rona!d Posted November 30, 2006 Share #17 Posted November 30, 2006 Just ordered 21 Leica C3 instead of the M8

Spend your money on a truckload of chocolate bars! Just as addictive as camera-gear.
egibaud Posted November 30, 2006 Share #19 Posted November 30, 2006 by the way... as you already have an M6, I can imagine you have some lenses too so you are surely in a better position of buying an M8 than many of us who would be first time leica camera owners. or maybe you were just thinking out loud and trying to convince yourself you do not need an M8
egibaud Posted November 30, 2006 Share #20 Posted November 30, 2006 sorry for posting again but your title made me smile "I think I have done a 360 with the M8 ..." a 360? or a 180? because if you have done a 360 you are still going towards an M8 purshase
