I had 50mm Summicron-R with my AF-Confirm EOS Adaptor and 5D Mark II, without LiveViewer I can take photo with quite accuracy photos (even I took pictures with children). Recently, I used 50mm Summilux-L and I like the bokeh very much, so I tried to find 50mm Summilux-R for my EOS. Luckily the seller let me try before buy, but I found that I can’t have such accuracy level, specailly with f1.4, even I used f1.8 – f4.0. Is that because my Summicron-R was made by Canada and Summilux made by Germany? Or Summilux can’t use AF-Confirm EOS Adaptor without high accuracy level? Please help…..

Was it this current lens of an earlier version?

I used the HappyPK confirming focus adapters (eBay $75 or so) with my 5d and 1ds2 all the time with my Summilux 50 R and 80R.

I had no problems using the confirmation, even wide open (though it's impossible, really, to actually focus given the non-focus-priority screens the Canons have, even the upgraded screens).

I use the Fotodiox adapter I bought from Ebay for $137 and it's great for critical focusing. I shoot mostly wide open on all my R lenses so you can tell whether the adapter will do the job or not. The $25 one will do if you shoot f8 all the time. By the way I wouldn't trust the Canon AF confirm so much it has pretty wide tolerances I use my eyesfor contrast focusing most of the time :)

How's the quality of yours? I got one from Fotodiox and the contacts fell of the the adpater before I could use it twice. They were very poorly glued on.

BTW I use a 90mm Emarit R on Canon with an adapter that has no FC and it work very well.

As I mentioned, it's quite ok even I used f2.0 taking photos with my 3-years old son. Recently, I bought EMF Leica-R Adaptor. The good news is it can show your exact aperture value. Of course, you need to perform simple setup before that.

This is the best conversion for Leica R to EOS there is, after this conversion it is even more rugged than a original Leica R lens on a R camera because of the thicker mount of the Leitax, it's also 100% correct thickness, so all of my lenses work prefect, (which is not the case with adapters)

Leica lens for Canon cameras

+ this and you will have the right focal length, microadjustment ++ for each lens...

I really recommend this setup for all Leica R - EOS users...
