xiaubauu2009 Posted November 13, 2009 Share #1 Posted November 13, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am looking to get a flash unit for M8 and I don't feel like spending that much on a SF 58 or SF-24 for that matter. Can I used those third party flash such as Nissin, Metz that is designed for Canon/Nikon/Olympus? Any advise please~

Big T Posted November 13, 2009 Share #2 Posted November 13, 2009 Nikon SB-80DX - eBay..... Works beautifully..... You can set the following to what ever you require for the shoot: ~ ISO ~ Lens (Eg: 35mm, etc.) ~ Aperture And as the flash does the exposure monitoring bounce works as well. Highly recommend for the M8/8.2…..

Just slide it onto the hotshoe and away you go... Nothing further required......

earleygallery Posted November 13, 2009 Share #6 Posted November 13, 2009 Just slide it onto the hotshoe and away you go... Nothing further required...... As long as you don't need to use an external viewfinder at the same time !!

Any advise please~ You could use various Metz flashes with the appropriate SCA adapter, and still retain TTL flash control.
richam Posted November 13, 2009 Share #8 Posted November 13, 2009 I got the Metz 44MZ-2 and the TTL adapter SCA 3502. Works beautifully, but is probably a bit pricier than your other options. I do like tilt-head bounce flash, and this one has it. It's a nice feature.
kully Posted November 13, 2009 Share #9 Posted November 13, 2009 The Metz 36 C2 works fine as well.
ArtZ Posted November 13, 2009 Share #10 Posted November 13, 2009 Panasonic DMW-FL28 It was the Panasonic flash for the DMC-LC1 (Leica Digilux 2). It works fine on the M8.
usayit Posted November 13, 2009 Share #11 Posted November 13, 2009 Cool, one more thing to ask, will any of the Canon work too? Not any Canon. You'll need flash that is capable of manual settings. The 420EX for example will always fire at full. I have used my 550EX set to manual and used a hand flash meter to determined exposure and dialed back the power on the 550EX. THe new 580EX II has a auto sensor on it (similar to the autothrystors of older flashes). I would imagine it would work but I cannot confirm.
