New Leica M?

Makes perfect sense that Leica would redesign the classic film M camera at this point in time, which has served them so well for over 50 years, especially having just released the M9 which follows the classic form/design!

Unless the redesign amounts to a new colour of dot or engraving of course!

Addition of a self-timer and greater shutter speed (1/4000th sec) would be welcome additions. Built in whisper silent micro drive with the ability to disable and just use manual advance would be cool. The micro drive could also be used to quickly rewind film (which would also be beneficial in cold weather when wearing gloves). An electronic shutter release would minimize camera movement relative to the current manual release. Built in diopter correction would be nice.

chuckle...

although of course they could put the M9 shutter into a film body, which would give you 1/4000 top speed. Would also allow them to standardise more between the film cameras and the digitals, which in a reducing market for film bodies - might make sense.

The details are sketchy at that point, but the word on the street is that Leica will be coming up with a new Leica M design. It will be a film camera (not sure whether M7 or MP).

Um... How can a currently exsisting model become a new model?? Either could be upgraded or modified, but this would make them an improved model, (like the M6TTL vs. the M6) not a new model. Just sayin'...

I don't think the addition of a self timer would be an improvement - it would be an act of diluting/degrading a high performance professional camera with a hobbyist feature (JMHO).

Built in diopter eyepiece correction would be nice, but I'm seriously hoping Leica will approach "improving" either film M using a feather touch rather than a sledgehammer.

My feeling is if it ain't broke, don't fix it. "New and improved" usually turns out to be new but not improved.

matching plastic lenses.

Made of polycarbonate and named Polyrit rather than Summarit (of course the prices will be the same as the Summarit series)... ;)

Close, very close, but consider the world-wide shortage of 50mm Summilux Asph's and you'll take Gold !!
