It seems to be between a silhouette and a half-tone and doesn't go in either direction. I thought a while before posting this one precisely because of the reason you mentioned; that "he looks cut-out", I would say almost contrived. Sun had just gone, the light was very flat, one of those cloudy days where the whole sky is flat grey, exposure comp. set to +2 1/3 and ISO1,000 contribute to the look. Other than Jpeg & B&W conversion with Silver Efex, I didn't do much else to the original. BYTW my wife who is my biggest critic, is also not sure about it......
