ljclark Posted October 31, 2009 Share #1 Posted October 31, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) (...Or whatever factor would allow a 24mm frameline?) I've never felt compelled to use a 135mm on 35mm RFs, nor the 90mm on my M8. Would there be enough interest and potential sales for an M9 that covered the range one "step" wider? I figure to move to an M9 eventually, but I'd hate to buy one and then have a wider view model announced a few months later.
Advertisement Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Hi ljclark, Take a look here Is a .58 M9 Likely?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
rob139 Posted October 31, 2009 Share #2 Posted October 31, 2009 Good question, I would like to know that as well. Maybe in an a la carte program? And would a 0.58 viewfinder allow for 24mm framelines without having to 'eyeball' through the finder?
Overgaard Posted November 1, 2009 Share #3 Posted November 1, 2009 I would ask Customer Service at cs@leica-camera.com It's my impression that with Leica cameras you can pretty much get it how you want it. So ask what the price would be. Considering the price of an external viewfinder it could be worth it.
lars_bergquist Posted November 1, 2009 Share #4 Posted November 1, 2009 My own preference would be for a finder without the 28mm frame, because the only comfortable way of working with 28mm on a FF M is with an accessory finder. So I would want a circa .75 to .8 finder, with enough air around the 35mm frame, and good-sized 90 and 135mm frames. I mean it! UliWer Posted November 1, 2009 Share #5 Posted November 1, 2009 Since the Age of the M3 users of a M have to compromise: if one opts for large frames, one decides against wide angles, if one wants to have frames for wide angles, longer lenses are ruled out. The traditional 0.72 viewfinder - 0.68 with the thicker M8/9 body - is Leica's answer for those who don't dare to go extreme. I am sure the succcess of the M9 will enable Leica to tolerate customers' wishes for leaving the juste milieu - so viewfinders with 0,55 and 0.8 seem to be likely. Perhaps a good a reason to stay back from the waiting lists at the moment.
Shootist Posted November 1, 2009 Share #6 Posted November 1, 2009 If the M9 becomes the staple of the M camera line I see no reason for Leica not to offer different magnification viewfinders, maybe through the a la carte program. But time will tell. I suspect the M9 will be replaced with the M10, a more complete camera, and that will be near the end of the line for the M system for many years to come. Or until the digital technology changes to a point that the M11 will be made.

I now use a M7 with .85 finder and find it wonderfull.
