xiaubauu2009 Posted October 29, 2009 Share #1 Posted October 29, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yesterday while taking some photos, I notice that the LCD perpex are abit loose and suddenly, the LCD cover of my Leica M8 just fall off, exposing the bare LCD surface. Got home and clean the LCD surface and glue the cover back in again. Does this happen alot to anyone? Then took some photos, then I notice there's a black small dot even at f1.4!! I manual clean to open the shutter and saw a black dot of dust or some sort on the sensor, blow it, it won't move. Then decide to sensor swab it. It's oil!! it smear the entired CCD!! I keep changing Swab and retry again, for like 7 swab later, it's back to normal again. I think it's the shutter lubricant. Leica got some pretty bad workmanship on this camera! It drips oil! Took some f22 photos, and also f1.4 this morning, it's back to normal. After only about 20k actuation, and this is the first time, the shutter drips oil! But one thing I notice, those CCD are pretty strong and resistent against swabing. I was afraid I might have scratch the surface or something when I was wiping it. But it turn out ok. lct Posted October 29, 2009 Share #2 Posted October 29, 2009 It is not unusual to get oil on sensors with new cameras. Suffice it to clean the sensor a couple of times generally.

I would take the camera back to your dealer to have the LCD cover attached correctly by Leica. Or did you buy the camera secondhand? Oil from the shutter sounds like a new camera experience. But it's now glue back (DIY) I don't bother with going to Dealer cause it takes too long. and I can't live without this camera.

I use the same approach, don't really want the camera to be away so I fix it myself but I never had to reglue the LCD cover yet ! Only rangefinder alignments (thanks to this forum for the tutorials) and oils sprays (during the first 1k actuation it kept spraying the sensor with oil). After 2 years and a half it mostly just catches dust on the sensor now... My Luigi case has taken all the scratching though, not the LCD.
