Just as a followup, I popped by the Tamagawa Leica Japan today to take a look at the M9 Engrave Japan Ltd Edition. And as per report, they've only made 10 specially for the Tamagawa branch. They don't have them on display anymore 'cos apparently all 10 have been sold!! The salesman was nice to offer to put my name on the list should anyone cancel their order.

Jaap, we have to mee one day to clarify why we only have 90% the same toys

I like the clean top plate but decided for an engraving whilst the M9 was anyways home at the mothership in Solms for a buffer up-warping.

Just a quick question - does that mean you're getting a larger buffer installed?

Huh? If you don't conform, then you're hitting the cool-aid?

Isn't mass conformity the definition of drinking the cool-aid?

People like what they like. What's the big deal?

How much skin off your nose is it if someone wants an engraved M9 ... or a pink dot ... if that's what floats their boat?

It's cosmetic customization, not functional.

Unfortunately I don't think so. But my write-to-SD-card times were 3X the ones reported by Sean Reid and Steve Huff so Leica Camera AG requested to have a look at it.

I'll have it back tomorrow so I'll see how it's doing. Haven't heard back what they did yet, except they looked at it and it's back tomorrow.

Nice! Did it yourself?

No, I didn't do the engraving myself :D

I had the camera in Solms and asked them to engrave it while there anyways, and send them specifications of the MP 2003 edition which has that engraving.

I think you can get what you want but I don't think they're going to launch an a la carte campaign. I think there's always been a la carte, it was just a period where they thought it was so cool they wanted to promote it.

I have similar engravings on both my M8 cameras- those cost me 270 Euro each, not 900$ - and just sent my M9 in to have the same (amongst other things) I can hardly call it special or limited - anybody can have this done by Leica since time immemorial.

well, i stand corrected then:) i beg your pardon.

i was honestly quoted that cost for engraving a new m8.2 top plate in germany, incl. new flash hotshoe, with a simple white "leica" script, having it shipped over here and swapped out by a technician in one day through schmidt hong kong. i was curious to find out the cost difference between losing it for 2mnths and dropping it in for one day so it seems that it's quite considerable verging on daylight robbery
