Nicoleica Posted October 15, 2009 Share #2 Posted October 15, 2009 Hi, This looks to me like flare ( A reflection of the lens aperture, and can happen when pointing the camera towards a bright light source. In this case, I'd guess it's the sun, either directly, or from the reflection off of the rear spoiler on the car.) Are you using a lens hood on your lens? Use of one can help in reducing flare and other such unwanted reflections. This link may be of interest. So might this.
scsambrook Posted October 16, 2009 Share #3 Posted October 16, 2009 Nicoleica is correct in her diagnosis of the cause - although my Pedantic Alter Ego urges me to point out that it's not actually 'flare' but rather an 'internal reflection'. Yes, I know, I should "get a [better] life" -
gfspencer Posted October 16, 2009 Share #4 Posted October 16, 2009 Actually it is the reflection of an alien space ship. The aliens are in our galaxy searching for a flux capacitor. Do you use a lens hood? That will help.
Guest mc_k Posted October 16, 2009 Share #5 Posted October 16, 2009 ...suggest using a hood or shooting wide open...

trs Posted October 16, 2009 Share #7 Posted October 16, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I think picture on the linked thread is alien, too. I can see human figure (jumping down the hill in form of cloud). So, big otagonal shape got to be the reflection of the alien ship In a serious note, yes, I think it is flare. Some time, I actually like to have these in the pictures. They look fun.
Guest mc_k Posted October 17, 2009 Share #8 Posted October 17, 2009 ...I don't think that looks good at all--it even has a rim around it. At least the ones I get from my Summitar don't have a rim...
redbaron Posted October 17, 2009 Share #9 Posted October 17, 2009 It's aperture ghosting, which is from oblique light rays not being corrected in the rear elements of the lens. Apertures can't actually cause reflections since they're holes. Try removing the filter, or getting a better one, and using a hood. I've also heard that the shiny surface of digital sensors may be an issue in certain circumstances.
melissah Posted October 17, 2009 Share #10 Posted October 17, 2009 well its the aliens ofcourse! i have them too. consider yourself lucky because they only revel themselves to leica shooters. or its what redbaron and nicole said...
ljclark Posted October 17, 2009 Share #11 Posted October 17, 2009 It's actually the head of the alien who shot the picture. You can see the alien in the reflection on the side of the car. Odd that their bodies look so much like ours, but their heads are so different.
