wda Posted November 27, 2006 Share #2 Posted November 27, 2006 Stephanie, you have captured a difficult subject very well. Although not an orchid expert I have experienced phalenopsis orchids flowering for months. Very rewarding plants. David
noddy Posted November 27, 2006 Share #3 Posted November 27, 2006 Stephanie Love the shot. Do you use an attachment or just the lens as it comes to get so close. Im assuming it's taken with a Digilux 2? Andy
squiff Posted November 28, 2006 Author Share #4 Posted November 28, 2006 Thanks for the lovely comments David and Andy, This orchid has been flowering for over a year, good spot in the sun i think and quite a bit of leaving it alone!!! yup it is shot with the Digilux 2, I shot it on macro focus, I am always surprised by the sharpness you can achieve using the macro focus. I would really like to get my hands on the macro attachment for the D2 as well, and see what that produces. cheers s
noddy Posted November 28, 2006 Share #5 Posted November 28, 2006 Stephanie Thanks for the info. I tried to get one of those Leica macro attachments, it went for £270 on Ebay! They are very rare. Decided to buy a cheep one instead to see what it produces, so far not too bad, although I've only had it 24hours.. I'll post something when I get the hang of it. JHAG Posted November 28, 2006 Share #6 Posted November 28, 2006 Funny thing Stephanie I have a similar orchid on a window in the drawing room. It never ceased to bloom over and over again for two years.
wda Posted November 29, 2006 Share #7 Posted November 29, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Stephanie Thanks for the info. I tried to get one of those Leica macro attachments, it went for £270 on Ebay! They are very rare. Andy Wow!. I seem to recall paying about half that when it was new. I suspect few were made in the first place. I have to say it is an exceptionally well-made piece of glass. David

elansprint72 Posted February 8, 2007 Share #14 Posted February 8, 2007 Squiff, Watch e-Bay for the Elpro D, I managed to bag one for 90GBP recently on a "buy it now", this was less than the original cost I think, just happened to sign in at the right time . I've seen them go for up to 300 GBP. The Panasonic version is a simple lens (one element) the Elpro has two components. You seem to be managing pretty well without one, white on white is difficult but you've got this one right! Cheers, Pete.

squiff Posted February 12, 2007 Author Share #17 Posted February 12, 2007 Hi Pete, thanks for the tip, i will look around on ebay, and see if i can find an elpro. when I used an slr, years ago I used to take the lens off and hold it on backwards, with a light meter for the ap/exp and guess for focus, and used to get some pretty neat shots that had a similar effect as a marco, when you get it right! it was very hit and miss but film was a bit cheaper! cant do it with the digital so I think and elpro would be a good investment. cheers s
