Remmelt, The Coffee Shops in Haarlem must have a very good stuff these days... :D Seriously, there's no the reason. I believe the reason is to give a new modern look. Its a light colour unlike the black paint but is more subtle and understated compared to a silver chrome finish. It also suits the M9 because its a slightly larger camera than classical Leicas. I also liked the Leica MP grey anthracite (painted finish) which is quite a beautiful camera IMO. There aren't as many complaints about the black paint M9 and many customers actually requested that painted finish. Other pro cameras on the market like the Canon 1D mk 4, Olympus E-3, Nikon D3, Mamiya 645DF and Hasselblad H3D all have painted finishes and do not seem to get complaints.
