However I've read a number of discussions on R lenses and Digilux 3, and just thought I'd say that I'm very pleased with the three R lenses I've bought second hand. I got an Elmarit 28/2,8, an Elmarit 135/2.8, an Summicron 50/2 and a 2x converter for around 750 Euro. All are old lenses (non APO), the 50/2 dates back to 1966! I tend to use the 28/2,8 quite a lot. It makes the Digilux 3 much smaller and easy to carry around.  The first three pictures are with the 135/2.8, the next two with the 50/2, the next four with the 28/2.8 and the last (a bit shaky!) is shot with the 135/2.8 and the 2x adapter. Not easy to use a 540mm equivalent without a tripod  All pictures are JPEG Low Quality straight out of the camera. I am to lazy to shoot RAW. Especially the 28/2.8 tends to underexpose a bit, so I did some auto contrast in PS on some of the shots as I reduced the size. I also applied 20% 1.0 px unsharp mask on all pictures to compensate for the sharpnes loss in resizeing.  I know there is a lot of talk about coating and not to use old "BW-lenses" with digital cameras, but that does not seem to bother these old Leica R lenses at all: they just ignore the gossip and keep on making great pictures... Â This is a risky set for me to look at as I have in hand my Leica certificate for the Digilux 3 and have even forwarded onto my dealer of 25+ years standing. Worse (for me), I came back here after nosing around on the web about R lenses for too long. You did give me proof of concept on one axis of attraction I see of the Digilux 3 (which we must always spell out here, it seems to me at least, given another very similarly named current Leica). In manual focus, is there a light in the viewfinder to confirm when you are in focus or do you just rely on your vision. Â It might help if you take a look (in the photo forum) at the tip thread about posting photos. This will enable you to put a little space between photos when posting - to their immense benefit. Â @dcarter - Yes there is a focus confirm light in the RH info panel. There's always zone focusing, but you can focus at full aperture and then stop down. They may be old, but they are superb lenses. When I first started using them with my DMR, I could not believe the colours, or tones I was getting. Yes, the newer aspherical and apo lenses are better, but do not dismiss these old lenses. In fact, in some high contrast situations, I prefer these old lenses for b&w work. Â N.S. I'll get back to you all with some new picts and examples on the Digilux 3 and R-lenses combo. I've just yesterday got my hands on a Macro Elmarit-R 60/2,8, including a Macro-Adapter-R, and together with the 2x extender this combination gives a fantastic 2:1 repro scale. That is to say 4:1 in 35mm language! Closing in on a mm scale, when the focus is dead on you cannot fit but 9 mm:s in the picture. Â I have the Leica to 4/3 adaptor, the R lens for my R9... next the D-3 Â Any focusing issue? Â I gave up on the M8 until I can truly rely on it. My Ms and M lens...
