wilfredo Posted July 25, 2009 Share #1 Posted July 25, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I hardly ever do nature and wildlife photography but today I got the urge to photograph these Seagulls who were looking to get some fish bait. No, these are not DSLR shots with a zoom. These were all done with my M8 and 35mm Summicron ASPH. At times the gulls were about five feet above my head. I might add that for those who want to practice focusing with a rangefinder all you need is a clear sky on the beach, and fish bait, and the gulls will come. Advertisement Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Hi wilfredo, Take a look here Show me the Fish. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wilfredo Posted July 25, 2009 Author Share #2 Posted July 25, 2009 This last shot was taken with the 90mm Elmarit. The bird was practically on top of me. This photo in particular brings back memories of reading Jonathan Livingston Seagull.

stuny Posted July 25, 2009 Share #4 Posted July 25, 2009 Wilfredo - Excellent series, each lovely for composition, detail, lgith, contrast, color (all but the last), and tonal range & quality (the last).
Marquinius Posted July 25, 2009 Share #5 Posted July 25, 2009 Wilfredo, A very nice series indeed! The last one (in B&W) is spectacular. BTW: did you get to eat the fish? My fav is freshly baked in olive oil with tomato salad and a glass of cheap red wine right there on the quay.

wilfredo Posted July 25, 2009 Author Share #7 Posted July 25, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thank you all and no I didn't eat any fish, but maybe later in the day I will today, in honor of the gulls. When you see a bird like that practically still in the air, right above you and you get that shot and look at it even closer, you really do get a sense of how awesome nature evolves, trillions of atoms spreading wings.... What a gift!
leicanut2 Posted July 25, 2009 Share #8 Posted July 25, 2009 All are great I like the last two the best. Cheers Jan
Steve Ash Posted July 25, 2009 Share #9 Posted July 25, 2009 Wonderful. My favourite one is the very first showing a detail and telling the whole story. Congrats Steve
pauledell Posted July 25, 2009 Share #10 Posted July 25, 2009 Wilfredo, Great series. The last in b&w is my favorite. Paul
vdb Posted July 26, 2009 Share #11 Posted July 26, 2009 As the others have said, excellent series with the last one being spectacular. Here in Indiana I see flocks of gulls following farmers as they work the land. I used to think they only lived by the ocean. They are crafty scavengers with wonderful voices. SJP Posted July 26, 2009 Share #12 Posted July 26, 2009 I hardly ever do nature and wildlife photography BIG mistake, these are wonderful, for me the 1st (fish) and the last (B&W) really stand out..
wilfredo Posted July 27, 2009 Author Share #13 Posted July 27, 2009 BIG mistake, these are wonderful, for me the 1st (fish) and the last (B&W) really stand out.. Thank you all again. I never know what I will photograph on a given day. These shots came about because I happened to be standing next to the guy who was preparing his bait, had he not been there, I would have never been drawn to the gulls like I was. Often my photography is truly serendipitous.
Bertje Posted July 27, 2009 Share #14 Posted July 27, 2009 Wilfredo, the B/W is very nice and well cropped. Number 1 with fish and viscera is great too. ( Can almost smell it)
