k-hawinkler Posted May 23, 2011 Share #1 Posted May 23, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) The 5 OUFRO rings permit closer focus than the close focus distance of the lens itself. With the rings, one has a focus area of about a foot in depth, using the focus knob of the Televit. Of course, the DOF is extremely shallow at f=5.6, as is apparent in the image. K-H. Advertisement Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Hi k-hawinkler, Take a look here Hummingbird, M9, Viso III, 5 OUFRO, 560/5.6. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
yadillah Posted May 23, 2011 Share #2 Posted May 23, 2011 This is a really nice image. Very sharp. I like the contrasting colours between the bird and the bird bath.
luigi bertolotti Posted May 23, 2011 Share #3 Posted May 23, 2011 That's a splendid picture !!! Knowing well how the big Telyts are not so light to manage, you indeed made a really superfine catch !!! DOF critical, of course, but the hummingbird's head is perfect... k-hawinkler Posted May 24, 2011 Author Share #13 Posted May 24, 2011 Paul, Thanks. Maybe the little guy was just very hungry. The hummingbirds have only returned from Mexico to our high country for a few days. Best, K-H.
k-hawinkler Posted May 24, 2011 Author Share #14 Posted May 24, 2011 Artichoke, Many thanks. I appreciate your feedback. The hummers are a lot of fun. Sometimes there are 3 birds at the feeder at the same time. They seem pretty possessive and chase each other around. Best, K-H.
jaapv Posted May 24, 2011 Share #15 Posted May 24, 2011 I should delete this thread, as it is obviously a fake Everybody knows that this kind of shot is impossible with the gear you used. No AF, no matrix metering, shutter delay like a politician's decision.... Superb work! Thanks for sharing!
k-hawinkler Posted May 24, 2011 Author Share #16 Posted May 24, 2011 Jaap, Many thanks for your feedback. Coming from you means a lot to me. Also thanks for all the help you have given me to get my gear in order and improve the post-processing. All I can say, sometimes I get lucky. A coworker of mine used to say "better lucky than smart". Seems to work for me as well. Best, K-H.

allamande Posted June 4, 2011 Share #19 Posted June 4, 2011 This is the most splendid hummingbird picture I've ever seen! I have a whole bunch of sage flowers right outside the window to my study, and these birds hang around all the time, totally distracting me from work. I love watching them. They are exquisite. Your image is a tribute to their unique beauty. Congratulations! Ece
