jpattison Posted March 28, 2011 Author Share #6 Posted March 28, 2011 Thank you! Just a modelling light through a softbox, with a darkcloth as background! I did hold a white card to the left to get a little fill. John

Michael Hiles Posted March 28, 2011 Share #8 Posted March 28, 2011 John, Does a softbox provide something substantially different from an umbrella?
jpattison Posted March 28, 2011 Author Share #9 Posted March 28, 2011 Hi Michael, Yes, the white diffuser cloth that the light shines through gives an overall softer effect which is evenly distributed. I think an umbrella (with the light pointing into the reflective part) is further away from the subject, and the head is also in the way, so perhaps that effects it too. If you mean a white brolly with the light shining through onto the subject, then this would be quite a lot better, but you loose some light around the brolly. A softbox "tent" attached to the head contains the light, diffuses it and gives a more even effect. John
