barjohn Posted July 14, 2009 Share #1 Posted July 14, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) It appears that Leica has had to acknowledge Mr. Lee's contributions to the company and specifically thank him for his leadership on the S2 and new lenses. Quote from Leica Press Release: Leica Camera AG, its majority shareholder ACM Projektentwicklung GmbH and the former CEO, Mr. Steven K. Lee have settled the legal disputes which have arisen in the context of Mr. Lee’s dismissal. Leica Camera welcomes this settlement. In his former function as CEO, Mr. Lee contributed measurably to the restructuring of the company. Leica Camera also thanks him for his contributions in conjunction with the development of the Leica S2 camera and the M lens portfolio. The company wishes Mr. Lee all the best for his future career. Advertisement Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Hi barjohn, Take a look here S2 Thanks to Mr. Lee?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
barjohn Posted July 14, 2009 Author Share #2 Posted July 14, 2009 Leica doesn't disclose what it cost them in addition to the statement but I'll bet it wasn't cheap or free.
mhoersch Posted July 14, 2009 Share #3 Posted July 14, 2009 Just in time to put the blame on Lee if the S2 doesn't take off as hoped for. And Lee would surely have liked to see the R10 come to life. Nice bit of irony when they have to use the money that could have gone into the development of the R10 to pay him off...
jaapv Posted July 14, 2009 Share #4 Posted July 14, 2009 Leica doesn't disclose what it cost them in addition to the statement but I'll bet it wasn't cheap or free. At least it was not in an USA court, which could save Leica 90%.
luigi bertolotti Posted July 14, 2009 Share #5 Posted July 14, 2009 Leica doesn't disclose what it cost them in addition to the statement but I'll bet it wasn't cheap or free. Can be that some hint come from their Annual Report if they are still under the rules of listed companies: but also can be that Lee has been paid in nature - gear... :D
barjohn Posted July 14, 2009 Author Share #6 Posted July 14, 2009 After a year of negotiations the attorney fees alone would be very large. The published statement is a bit like eating crow after some of the published statements last year. If the S2 is a success Lee will now get credit and if it flops he can say Leica failed to properly execute his plan and it is due to current management's incompetence. True, but to my ears it would sound as insincere as Leica's statement I think you'll find that German attorney's fees are not as high as one would expect, caused by fierce competition and regulation. georg Posted July 14, 2009 Share #8 Posted July 14, 2009 The S2 is a major decision for Leica and definitely not based on Mr. Lee. He was responsible for the company while the first year of S2-developement and propably for the Summarit-line. What you read here is pure "business talk" - first they fired him, then he wanted money, now they agreed and thanked him...

Dr Kaufman had mentioned that Mr. Lee had postponed the R10 in favour of the S2 diverting all AFriKa resources to it.
georg Posted July 14, 2009 Share #10 Posted July 14, 2009 That's possible, the AFRICA was just referring to a DSLR-System with AF But the decision to make a Pro-format at all? I don't think so.

That part I don't know, but I would not eliminate it offhand since often times these things are based on synergy. Cheers
