jjjjuin Posted October 9, 2010 Share #1 Posted October 9, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I had a chat with my friend who works in central government of China and he told me he has just started shooting with Leica S system. he just received a gift which is a brand new S2-P and the used S2 body will be abandoned. I was told that his last lens - 120mm macro-lens was the first S2 macro lens come to asia market and there're quite few were supplied in world. As well as the handgrip is extreamly hard to get at this moment. He joked that he might be the first person owned everything, at least in the range of asia. Well.... Just that you have to sort of hide the riches until you retire on a fat pension and can move to New York and go on speaking tours. Word is you can become worth 192,000,000, ie 192 million incase you think you see a typo. Or you can become speaker of the house, 52 million. Or senate president, makes over a million annually based on 2 years law practice when he was 20. He must have been a damn good lawyer. Or just become a plain jane senator or congress man and you can do things in the stock market that would be illegal insider trader for me and you. Yup, they passed a law to make themselves exempt. Or you can just live like a millionaire by taking the campaign contributions that were supposed to go to republican candidates and use them for private jet charters and golf outings outings to fancy private clubs. Something has to be going on under the table when it is worth billions to contributors to elect their favorite or they just buy both candidates so they don`t care who wins. Do these people actually have any self respect? Wife, family, children, relatives what a mess it must be. What an ego, what selfishness. Yes, politicians are corrupt everywhere....What I find hilariously ironic is the juxtaposition of a communist party official in a country of vast poverty walking around with an S2 and a bag of lenses...Snapping shots of the people I'm sure! I was in Hong Kong for a few days with my S2 and two different Chinese people (one man and one woman) actually asked me to take a picture with them and they genuinely seemed very excited about the S2. I've heard that "gifts" to officials are an obligation over there - with the exception of the very top officials who are actually reputed to be honest.
