Hi everybody!

For those interested - the Olympus viewfinder is definitely not working on the M. The shoe is about two, three milimeters too long, so the electronics don't get contact. Maybe somebody's trying to cut of a bit of the shoe ...

The camera is just great!

This user report says it does work:

The Leica M 240 has been in my hands since the moment it arrived. I have been shooting with it non stop, taking video, testing ISO, comparing it against the M9 and RX1 and having a good time in the process, It is always fun to shoot with a new Leica, even if it is a controversial new model! I have been shooting with a 35, 50 and 75 and each lens has delivered without issues. I have been testing the EVF (BTW, the Olympus VF-2 works exactly as the Leica EVF as they are the same but it says OLYMPUS instead of LEICA) and even the add-on Microphone.

Maybe you have to melt off the Olympus wording first?

Is it a white or black OLy EVF. Serious question. People in a camera store couldn't get white only not to work.

Which one did you try, the VF2 or the VF3?

TheVF3 will not work -it even needs a firmware update on some Olympus cameras- , but is less interesting anyway as it is lower resolution. And the VF3 does indeed come in white.

jaapy boy, you probably nailed it. Will let the camera store know. This is why I keep coming back to the forum. Oh, the high-ups at leica haven't a clue as to why that might happen.

I will, if asked and it proves true, submit your name as the benefactor.

Well,

I just got an used Olympus VF-2 evf, and I tried it at local camera store with Leica X-2: works like a charm! I see no reason for this evf not to be compatible with new M... Something is not adding up here...:D

OK, this is why I should be there when things happen. Every time I say white, it should have been silver. Have never seen the Olys (I have a black Leica)

VF2 comes in black and silver, either will work.

VF-3 comes in silver only, will not work.

At the shop, they figured it out since an M came in, they were using black VF-2s and silver (white) VF-3s.

Not good experimental methodology.

To avoid any uncertainty: I have been using the Olympus VF2 on my new M since Saturday and it fits precisely and works as intended. Unlike the Sony NEX EVF it lacks a locking mechanism so although it is not a loose fit you do need to ensure that it is pushed fully home against the body of the M, as once or twice I have noticed that it can slide fractionally away from the body, presumably when getting the camera in and out of my bag.

Love and peace

The VF3 viewfinder is a lower quality finder made to be cheaper and smaller than the VF2, but I suppose the confusion comes simply because you expect 'latest and best' to have the higher number. Having used both an Olympus VF2 and Leica EVF2 on an X2 I'd say there isn't any difference in image quality between them, although I think the Olympus finder looks neater.

I'm so sorry ... and happy! The viewfinder works perfectly as all you guys said. Seems I was a little bit overexcited with my new camera yesterday - or it was the jetlag from coming home from Chicago the same day which leds me into confusion.

I can state clearly now: the Olympus VF-2 works perfectly on my M.

Thanks a lot to all who shared my problems, it encourages my to try again:)
