hx911 Posted November 22, 2011 Share #2 Posted November 22, 2011 Washington, as usual - when there is a firmware update - the high ISO quality is improved visibly, shutter noise is down, and the focussing is easier
Ario Arioldi Posted November 22, 2011 Share #3 Posted November 22, 2011 I did not detect any difference. This is just after plane visual observation, I have not done any dedicated test.
andybarton Posted November 22, 2011 Share #4 Posted November 22, 2011 The new firmware just addresses the SD card issue.

01af Posted November 26, 2011 Share #12 Posted November 26, 2011 The new firmware is crap. It may improve memory card compatibility in a few cases (not for me as I didn't have any issues before) ... but it is significantly slower in terms of buffer-to-card transfer speed than the previous firmware. Shooting and saving seven frames in JPEG+DNG uncompressed format to a SanDisk SDHC "Extreme" Class 10 card takes 40 s with firmware v1.162 but 100 s (geez, that's 1 min 40 s!) with firmware v1.174. I consider this a serious bug. So I am back to firmware 1.162 for now. It is working fine with all my cards and much faster than v1.174.
Shade Posted November 26, 2011 Share #13 Posted November 26, 2011 I actually downloaded the new firmware but decided to not install it since I am not experiencing any problems whatsoever with my current m9-p thankfully, so I will leave it at that. I mean why fix something that isnt broken?
Washington Posted November 26, 2011 Author Share #14 Posted November 26, 2011 Oh dear, I used the firmware update for the first time yesterday and it’s slow-ware. The man above is right….. I was having no trouble. This stinks. But the reason I asked in the first place is the Leica Rep. for this area told me it would improve high ISO recording after I mentioned I use an NEX with my long slow lenses. Well: the NEX works anyway.

jaques Posted November 28, 2011 Share #18 Posted November 28, 2011 reminds me of a shoe seller who told me the Birkentsok shoes I was buying would shrink when she realised they didn't have a pair in my exact size.... same lady told a friend that the Birkentoks she bought would stretch.... needless to say we both ended up with ill fitting shoes. If you can, rent an old movie called "Evil Roy Slade" (starring John "Gomez Addams" Astin and a host of other notables). He's an old-west outlaw trying to reform, and in one scene he gets a job in a shoe store. One customer insists on buying shoes too small, and Slade is trying to get them on by slamming the customer's foot against a wall. The shop owner (played by Milton Berle) comes up and hands him a shoehorn and says "Try this." Slade takes the shoehorn and shoves it against the customer's throat and growls "Git that shoe on!" The next customer complains his shoe is too loose...so Slade pistol-whips the guy's foot with the butt of his six-shooter. "There, that foot'll swell up and them shoes'll fit just fine." I'm keeping 1.162. Works fine with my 2GB cards.
