MarkP Posted May 16, 2011 Share #1 Posted May 16, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) There is too much ruminating over M9 reliability throughout this forum. Poor DavidNZ needs to decide whether to buy an M9. Although there are obvious limitations to any poll collected this way I'm suggesting that all M9 owners simply state whether their M9 has been reliable and for how long they have owned it. * Simply + if no problems and - if problems (with a brief list of the issues, no tirades please!) * We can look at the stats if we build up enough numbers. PLEASE everyone who reads this, take just a moment to answer. Mark Ill start: + (10 months)
Advertisement Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Hi MarkP, Take a look here M9 reliability poll (for NZDavid). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
k-hawinkler Posted May 16, 2011 Share #2 Posted May 16, 2011 - (17 months) Issues: • Frame selector, and bright lines in viewfinder non functional from the very beginning. Repaired last year. • Image boundaries shifted somewhat to lower right relative to what's seen in the viewfinder. • Intermittent failure of scroll wheel in back. I noticed this first a couple of months ago. Instead of scrolling within an image it jumps to other images. Pretty annoying when trying to get precise frame boundaries. Failure occurs more often in cooler temperatures. I am waiting right now for this intermittent failure mode to get worse before I send the M9 in for repair. Griswold Posted May 17, 2011 Share #8 Posted May 17, 2011 6 months with M9. Dust on sensor with first 2K exposures.. no biggy, learned how to clean that sensor in the deep well. Best digital camera I have ever used except my P40+ on a tech camera. +
sm23221 Posted May 17, 2011 Share #9 Posted May 17, 2011 No problems with mine except the very occassional "no response mode" in prolonged cold. I'm a very satisfied user.

mwilliamsphotography Posted May 17, 2011 Share #12 Posted May 17, 2011 Two M9s (One of them the first one in the Eastern US). Lots of shots, including day long weddings. One battery issue (an off-brand hold over from my M8). Cameras are still functioning perfectly. + -Marc

kaiwing Posted May 17, 2011 Share #14 Posted May 17, 2011 Sensor dust after using two or three weeks. A bit upset. Now 3000 shots taken in 2 months, without any other issue. I use Lightroom to clear the black dots on the images before whether to send the body back for sensor cleaning.

adan Posted May 17, 2011 Share #19 Posted May 17, 2011 M9 purchased Sept. 17, 2009. So about 20 months and 18,000 exposures. No major problems. I have had the camera decide to shut down with ~20% battery charge remaining a couple of times - normally I don't let myself get that close to "empty." I have one instance of a corrupted dng file - part of one picture showing up in another picture. Likely specific to one SD card, and having deleted some images and shot more to overwrite them. I have recently started to have the right-arrow button on the back double-jump when scrolling through pictures. I expect I'll send it in for warranty repair when an opportune break in my shooting schedule arises in the remaining 3 months of warranty.
jaques Posted May 17, 2011 Share #20 Posted May 17, 2011 + 16 months 10K exposures. only issues encountered are corruption on a few images when the battery was very low. I have dust on the sensor but don't blame leica for that... I blame dust itself for trespass on private property:rolleyes:
