This is one of the many weird things my replaced camera is doing with SDHC cards...

I've tried a Lexar a Kingston and a SanDisk SDHC card too. 4Gb and 16Gb...

they still work like a charm with my dlux-4, and they used to be working perfectly with my old M8...

Here is the link where I described exactly what's going on... :(

Chris, that's a good point, I know... I'm used to 2-4 GB cards, but since the M8 was able to read SDHC, I bought almost exclusively those cards, since they were much easier to find in the shops.

BTW, what is scaring me, is the possibility to get future problems.

When I got that message displayed on the M8's monitor I switched off the camera, and when I turned it on no more pictures were recorded on the SDcard.

So I took off the memory, placed it on my card reader and discovered that I did lost all the pictures taken during the session... :(

As if the camera had erased them all... matter of fact my MACs nor my PC were still able to read the card. I was asked to format the card!

But still i can use it on the DLUX4 and get no problem at all with hundred of shots and switching on/off operations.

oh my... once again. I must be unlucky... :(

What about me?! I had 5 bodies since June 2007... because three, after some (read "a lot") round trips to Solms, had to be replaced! My Summicron-M 28 ASPH goes regularly to spend some holidays to Solms (sometimes I wonder if he has a girlfriend at CS); after the bright lines and LCD cover upgrade, I had to send both cameras together with all my lenses because the rengefinder was misaligned for medium focus; and finally, my Digilux 2 after four round trips to Solms for the sensor issue had to be replaced for a Digilux 3 (I paid 900 € for the upgrade).

That's what I call being unlucky...

Well, the positive thing is I have now some friends at CS and we exchange post cards on holidays... I just try to be positive! :o

Maybe we can create a Club of Unlucky Leica Users...

Stick with 2 GB cards. I've used Sandisk Extreme IIIs since I've had my M8s - never had a problem... I'm happier two as 187 images are plenty for me per card... Sorry you've had the problem though... :(

C'mon Chris, you're not serious! How can you say that?

Artz, I guess Chris was referring just to the fact that usually the battery won't last longer than a couple of 2Gb cards, and that's safer to get them stored in different cards as to bring back home the work.:)

The only time I had this was on one card, which I promply threw into the bin, and on cards that were accidentaly formatted on the DMR. There reformatting took care of the problem. Btw, the images could be recovered using Sandisk Rescue Pro.

Yep, I used Sandisk Rescue Pro to get my images back. Thanks Jaap ;)

Today I'm gonna buy a new SDHC and try again(as I suppose that the DLUX-4 may be doing what the DMR did to your cards Jaap).

Actually I wish it was 09/09/09

I feel really sorry for you! I have to say I sold my flawless M8 months ago for other reasons, but I had a 50 lux asph with a strange "attribute" that I thought of sending to Solms for a check. But just thinking of all the hassle, using couriers, spending money on shipping, and then waiting for weeks or months (and for what?), put me off, so I never sent it in.

When I hear of your recent trouble, and the fact that your camera, I would go so far to say, malfunctions after its visit to Solms, I can only think to myself: is it really possible?

Very disappointing, I can understand that.

If it was me in your position, I'd try to reload the most recent firmware, if possible. I am not a technician, but I never stop being amazed over what a fresh install or a power drain can fix :) Anything must be better than sending the camera once again for "repair"...

Anyway, good luck and I hope everything solves out without too much hazzle!

Mike, I know that, but I'm used to 4gb cards, and actually most of them are SDHC... so the problem lies down there.

Usually I fill an entire 4Gb card with just a battery load, as to reduce the most operations that imply the opening of the camera.

I often do the same with lenses, matter of fact it's still electronic there, and it's not sealed!:(

I assume that after you recovered the images, you tried reformatting in the M8? I have a Dlux3 (not 4 as you) and my experience has been that using the same SD card on the two cameras creates problems. I have a set of SD cards (including 4G Transcend) that are formatted in and used only in the M8, and a few other cards that are used solely for the Dlux3. Just because they're both "Leica" does not mean they format the same (and the Dlux's after all are Panasonics).

I've seen random results with older software levels.

When I received a brand new M8 earlier this year I found a very old software level on the camera  .

Are you using the latest software level ? I never had a problem w/ 4gb and 8gb SDHC after upgrading to 2.0++ .

Kindest regards

Michael
