Did anyone of you use this basecover instead if Leica's ?

Is it really faster (I've become pretty fast changing cards, now )

No need for that :)

I agree, no need. I can swap sd cards much faster than I can change a roll of film, and my cards hold much more than 36 exposures.

I like that leica kept the removable baseplate design. The battery doors and card doors on some digital cameras seem to be a weak point, and they often feel cheap and plasticky. The ones on my old Nikons used to come loose and I had one fall off once.

The standard M8 baseplate seems to offer a bit of protection, and does it REALLY take that long to remove and replace it?

Totally agree with you on #1 & 2 (and totally disagree with Kamber when he says

Leica baseplate is only a nod to classicists).

Regarding the quickness of card swapping, it depends of what you shoot.

For most of circumstances, I'm fast enough. In some others, a simple push

on a trap door might be a better system : when it rains, when it's very cold,

when you wear gloves, when you have already a hand busy with something

else, etc.

Personally, if I find myself getting that concerned about saving 20 or 30 seconds I'll do a total lifestyle assessment. Maybe if I was changing cards several times a day, it would be different. I take mine out of the camera on average once or twice each day.

Point taken, fotograf.

I was not talking about speed, but convenience.

Using a Leica M in the rain.... uiiiiii:rolleyes:

Please, try to read what I've written and not what you want.

I did not write "in the rain", but "when it rains" : I'm sure you can,

without too much stretching your brain ;) cells imagine outdoors

situations where it might be useful to operate with one hand,

without opening your camera, do you ? Hmmm ?
