T2 update?

I just picked up my camera from Leica USA this afternoon.

I have to say that everyone I dealt with there was really nice, especially Betty.

The vertical alignment is fixed and I just did a round of test shots using the infamous focus chart.

Yipee! All of my lenses are as dead on as I would expect them to be. I feel like I just got a whole new set of lenses. The 28 cron asph damn near knocked my socks off with the sharpness.

One thing that puzzles me is that Sarah said that the service ticket said that they adjusted the RF and did a "T2 update". I thought maybe that meant that they applied the new firmware, but that's not the case. I'm still on the same rev I was at before.

Does anyone know what a "T2 update" is?

John

Yes, Betty. There should be a special forum section devoted to Betty.

"Hello, yes, this is like a camera."

It's always refreshing to come across real and full of life people. Especially in corporate settings.

  • 4 weeks later...

As my SUMMICRON-M 1:2/28 needs to go back to Solms (including the body), I asked what means "T2 Update" and I got this answer from the Leica Professional Customer Care:

Dear Mr. de Aguirre,

T2 is a transistor. Here has been a change made and the transistor or I should say the printed circuit will be replaced with the new kind.

Thank you for sending the mail and the detailes about the problem with the lens. I will forward this mail to our workshop so they will have the information when the items get here.

Mit freundlichen Gruessen / kind regards

Well, at least we know now what means "T2 Update" :)

The bad transitter that was causing SDS. i think and I think what Leica is doing as the older M8's come in for service they are automatically changing out the transitter to prevent any SDS issues they had with some of the older models. Notice we don't hear about SDS anymore on newer bodies. i think they figured it out and traced it back to a certain transitter and as they come in they just replace it. This is my bet

That's a very interesting observation Guy, strange you should mention it. I've just received a service order for my equipment which went back to Solm for the miss-focus with the Nocti. My M8 went back to originally in January for the update but on this service order it lists receiving inspection, electronic modification, adjust rangefinder, clean rangefinder for the M8 and optical adjustment for M8 on both the 28 Cron & 50 Nocti. No mention of adjustment on the 75 Cron.

Turn around seems quick enough, they received it on the 8th, booked into service on the 11th and will be completed tomorrow, that also includes a 6bit code for the 28. All in all I should have it back inside 2 weeks, not bad seeing as this is traditionally holiday time and I guess they have limited human resources currently. Damn! they break your heart sometimes but they know how to patch it up,:D

That is a fast turnaround. maybe there catching up. Certainly hope so, it's been a long battle for them in repair. I can't confirm my comment on it but I have had a few reports from users on this T2 and it is exactly what it sounds like as there coming in there getting this update. Let's hope this is the case, it's just a gut feeling on my part.

Is a transitter a bit like a baby-sitter, only for trans not babies?

YES and when the transitter has a friend over for some fun that is when the camera goes SDS.

You do remember when you were young and your girlfriend baby sat someplace.

It's hot here and I'm getting a little wacky.
